Episode 37: March Toward 3DS
« on: January 21, 2011, 12:04:33 PM »

Andy takes a week off as the rest of the crew talks about Neal's 3DS adventure.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/newscast/24835

This week, Nintendo unveiled the 3DS launch details to North America and Europe.  Our own Neal Ronaghan was there to take in all of the information, and has come back to the podcast ready to spill it on the table for us.

No reviews, no listener mail, and no downloads this week; it's all about the March 27 launch of Nintendo 3DS.  We give our thoughts on the price, date, games, and more.

Your conversational partner has disconnected.

Seems like a main concern was a delay with the 3DS eStore, which is apparently not the case.

No announcement for NoA, but I doubt it will be much different.  I have a DS Lite, so my main reason for a 3DS at first is to access the DSiware titles.

I'll admit that my hesitation with the system has almost been entirely wiped away.

However, there's some rumors that Nintendogs+Cats is going to be the only Nintendo-published launch title. That's lame.

Nintendo games never drop in price. - Zach Miller

OBJECTION!

And thanks for getting me to check the TIV on Metroid Other M up here - still $35. It's going to pay for my DQVI and most of Pokemon White.

Nintendo probably realizes that Nintendogs sold what can be generously described as a metric fuckton of units on the DS (it's in the top 50 of franchise sales in history with essentially one game), so they can get away with it as a casual draw. The "core" audience has their SSFIV and the e-Store stuff.

Just out of curiosity, who is offering $35 for it? I know it's not GameStop, the highest value they offer on any $50 game is $25 (and that is right after launch), and they are selling used copies for $40 (so they would only be getting $5 profit). Amazon is offering just $11.

Best Buy (and its Canadian equivalent Future Shop) are giving $35 currently. Source.

Also, lost in all of the 3DS stuff this week was no Mega Man Legends 3 updates... sad. I know they're doing the community stuff but I'd like public proof that it's still being worked on.

I wish the main Best Buy stores (here in US) did that much, they are offering just $14 in their US stores for it.

Mega Man Legends 3 always seemed far off, even during its announcement. It's very much in development, but I doubt we'll see it this year.

I agree that the launch lineup is not great, and Nintendogs is not interesting to me at all.  Buying at launch takes a bit of faith, but I doubt it will drop in price or see a revision any time soon.  So, if games transfer and the DSiware is functional, might as well upgrade to the nicer screens and the novelty.  E3 should be very interesting and I expect many solid titles to be revealed.

Did a different person than usual edit this episode? The audio levels seem uneven.

Andy took this one, and he only had a single evening filled with an attention-hogging puppy to do it.

Where should I post my pictures? In this thread, or a new thread?
This would be my PSN Trophy Card, but I guess I can't post HTML in my Signature. I'm the pixel spaceship, and I have nine Gold trophies.

I'd say listen to the episode, but for anyone who's curious, we're having a contest to give away a FlingSmash plush. Submit a Zach Miller photoshop from one of these pictures and we'll pick the best one. Send it newscast@nintendoworldreport.com
