I bought a couple of SNES games a few months back at a retro game shop. Wing Commander was one of them and some Star Trek TNG game was the other. I figure chances are slim to none those would show up on VC (maybe Wing Commander as the PSOne WCIV is available on PSN, but I digress).

Also, I really want to pick up Dragon Quest 8 for PS2. I can order it for $7 (plus shipping) through Amazon and it will be sent lovingly to me by the Goodwill store in Tacoma, Washington! The internet is such a weird place.

You can also get a new 72-pin connector for it from someplace like eBay

I did this a little while ago. It was about $30 for the package that included a tool to unscrew Nintendo cartridges in order to clean the chips, and that has really come in handy. Anyway, it was easy enough to replace the connector, and now it works like brand new! If anyone is interested in doing this, I definitely recommend it.

Also, as far as bending the pins in the connector, I've heard that you shouldn't use a Game Genie.

I buy games for old systems quite often.  Although I have most of the NES/SNES/GB/N64 titles I want - I'm still picking up GameCube games on occasion.  If it's a good title that's still in the original case with all the inserts, for a cheap price, I'll grab it, even if I already have it.  I did the buy two-get two free at GameStop earlier this week.  Picked up the following:

Donkey Kong:  Jungle Beat (Already had GCN and NPC/Wii versions)
Geist (Have both an NTSC and autographed PAL version)
Namco Museum (have on the GBA... and DS... and Wii... and N64...)
Star Fox Adventures (Surprisingly, didn't have this one)
Mario Power Tennis (already had, along with the NPC/Wii verison)
Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour (Target version... already had a regular copy)
Mario Superstar Baseball (already had)
Super Mario Strikers (Again, surprisingly, didn't already have)

Paid about $35 for all 8 games, each in great condition (well, DK:JB is a little beat up, but it's a great game, so that's okay).  Was even able to register five of them on Club Nintendo. :D

Ahh UncleBob, you are my hero, sir. I wouldn't mind seeing a collection of all your Nintendo stuff.

I still pick up the occasional GC game as well. I am toying with the idea of picking up Custom Robo, Kirby's Air Ride, and Star Fox Assault should I see them for reasonable prices. I recently got A beautiful copy of Second Sight for $4 and grabbed the Mega Man Anniversary Collection -- messed up controls and all -- for $10 sans manual, which was like $2 on eBay.

I have two copies of Kirby Air Ride - one complete, one that's disc only/rental copy from a Movie Gallery that went out of business.  I put them together in a two-disc GameCube case.  I'd like to get two more copies (for Broadband purposes), but it's one title that's kept its value (usually $~20 or so) and, unlike Mario Kart: Double Dash, didn't sell a crap-ton so there's not a crap-ton of copies out there...

I recently saw about three copies at my local used game store of Kirby's Air Ride, but they were all $20, which is just more than I think I want to pay.

Also UncleBob, you must have copies of Pac Man Vs. -- is it worth picking up?

I'm not UncleBob Thank God for that but I'll field that one: Yes, absolutely! Pac Man Vs. is one of the best multiplayer games I've ever played.

Well I'm probably a bigger fan of it than most. Honestly, I'm shocked Namco never made a version of it for WiiWare with DS connectivity. It would work way better wirelessly than having to pass around the GBA while it's tethered to the GameCube.

I'm pretty similar to that. There are a few more NES and SNES games I wouldn't mind having, but I haven't found them for prices I'm willing to pay. There are still a lot of GameCube games I'm after though, since I was never a fan of it and stuck with buying Nintenodo 64 games instead. Kirby's Air Ride is one of them, and even though it looks fun, I'm not sure it is worth the prices I've seen.

I can second the nod to Pac Man vs.  Awesome game.

For what it's worth, they did make a DS version, as part of Namco Museum DS.  And while it does work better, I prefer the ghosts being on the big TV.  Something about it makes it more fun.

What games might those be, Mop? Just curious, as I like to get ideas from others (often to the detriment of my wallet).

You can see the list of GameCube games I have interest in here, it's kind of a big list because it contains many games that I would get only if I found them for a few bucks:

If you're curious, here's what I have for GameCube:

I've bought plenty of games for dead consoles, and I got more on the list! I actually remember one of my favorite games of all times for the Sega Genesis, the game "Shining Force". I had no idea they had more editions made for other systems, and I just found out - and I WILL be buying those Shining Force games, I just hope they are as good as the original Genesis game!

Has anyone played them?

I just bought Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection for the PS3 which has over 40 old Genesis games on a single disc.  Does this count as buying games for a dead console?

I have not played them but the general vibe is that the last great Shining Force game was back on the Saturn.  Shining Force Neo for example is not a turn-based RPG like the original games were.

About a week ago I picked up Gradius, Mega Man 3 and Virtua Racing.  I have not been thrilled with the Genesis but Virtua Racing is AWESOME!  It just crushes the **** out of Stunt Race FX.  I also find it to be incredibly playable today despite the very dated graphics.  It is just so much to play and the best part is that I only paid five bucks for it!  And to think the original cartridge cost about a hundred when it was first released.

I occasionally buy Wii games, so I suppose that counts. *rimshot* Otherwise, I only buy games for "dead consoles" if the games can be played on a current-gen system, such as a PS1 game on my PS3 or collections of PS2 games on Blu-Ray.
