It's always nice to see EA giving Nintendo support with such inspired titles...

Besides that, I think Paper Mario might actually benefit the most from being in 3D in terms of gameplay. Access to certain areas could be hidden in the effect, and if you have it turned off (because you're part of the 10% or so of people who get nauseous from viewing 3D) all you miss is a secret level, area, or item.

Anyone see other games on there that could have their gameplay potentially improved by being in 3D? Besides puzzle games...

Silly monkeys; give them thumbs they make a club and beat their brother down. How they survive so misguided is a mystery. Repugnant is a creature who would squander the ability to lift an a eye to heaven conscious of his fleeting time here.

http://www.gamesthirst.com/2010/09/30/a-list-of-all-confirmed-3ds-launch-titles/

I was going to go back and add release dates and mark launch titles but I can't seem to find confirmation of what is releasing when specifically. We know that ALL of these will not be launch titles (MGS and Resident Evil were confirmed to not be, right?)

I hope that EA allows Visceral Games to develop a new handheld Dead Space for the 3DS. I like the idea of Necromorphs in 3D and something like this could scare the pants off any gamers. The RIG that the player uses to determine the character's health could also be in 3D, too. The graphics would be on par with that of the Resident Evil Revelations for the 3DS.

Speaking of scaring the pants off of people, how about Eternal Darkness 3D? Im not sure if I'd buy a direct port, but a new mansion with same story and characters could be worth it. And a whole new game would be the bees knees!

I wonder what his exact statement was. Majesco owns the IP (not WayForward), so they could be having another developer make the game.

I don't know how well it has aged (I haven't played it since I played the game back in 2003), but back then I thought it was well worth the full $50. Maybe it's not worth it now though, a lot of games don't age well.

Go read the retroactive thread on the game if you are curious. We just played it last year.

Checking eBay, that's on the low end of the average sale price, so you aren't likely to find something much better than that.

So as NWR reported, Iwata says 3DS games are going to be in the same range as current DS games. I just wonder if they are talking about Nintendo titles or all titles? It might be hard to convince a publisher to release a 3DS game for $30 when it cost their developer $10million more to make it than a similar DSi game.

$10 million MORE? I highly doubt that 99% of 3DS games would even cost $10 million or more, yet alone be that much more expensive than DS games. The only ones I could see costing that much are like games from Hideo Kojima.

Yes, you're right. I was thinking of PS3/360 development costs.

Iwata mentions in the interview NWR references, that the 3D effect isn't what will drive the dev costs up, (near Wii dev costs which are $10million and less) its the base graphics, which are so high above the DS. He also says that only a developer taking maximum advantage of the 3DS's graphical capabilities will have higher costs. He also says that not every developer would need to make a significant investment for their games, but those who put in the same amount of effort as a console game will please their customers...
Would it really be too much for Nintendo to have a minimum graphical standard so that we don't get games with DS graphics in 3D?

The main reason HD games cost more is that they need higher resolution textures, which take a lot more time and effort. Even with the increased hardware specs of the 3DS, its relatively low resolution means lower costs.

In regards to the price of both the 3DS and its games, all Nintendo is going to do is blind fold the consumer and third parties, take the DS and its games off the table, replace it with the 3DS and its games and then remove the blindfolds and pretend there is no difference between the two systems.

Just to be clear, Iwata said 3DS games dev costs are going to be higher than DS games, and will be near what it costs to make a Wii game, and like I said previously it is because of more polygons and not 3D effect.

And don't be surprised when a year into the 3DS's life, when the price drops and everyone and their mother has one to see $50 games that promise more content and longer/more polished gameplay, than the early games.

Don't be surprised to see those games bomb. I'll bet a few publishers will try it, but it won't catch on because they won't sell.

If the 3DS really can't run the Unreal engine, what games/developers will be missing from it's library?

And also, those AR cards, are they already in use in Japan for other gadgets? Will this be a Nintendo only thing, or do you think we'll see Activision release an X-Men pack with different characters you have to defeat? And is there any replay value to them? If I beat a dragon on the AR card is the 3DS going to ramp up the difficulty? Add another dragon? Or do anything that makes it more than a one time affair?

I don't want a minimum anything.  I want developers to make the games they want, and the freedom of consumers to buy them.  I thought it was stupid and needless to force every game to have HD graphics on the Xbox 360 and PS3...specially the downloaded games.  If a developer doesn't want to spend the money it costs to make HD graphics why should they?  Let the market place decide if that was a good decision.

The 3DS does not need a graphics standard, all it needs is a simple quality standard...that the games function and work as they are supposed to.

I see what you're saying, but I didn't mean top tier graphics, or any standard for 3DSware. Just a base level so things can be uniform and devs can't be lazy like they were for the DS.
