Creative Director Trey Smith dishes on the upcoming arcade baller.

Recently, NBA Jam Creative Director Trey Smith talked to Nintendo-Okie and revealed several key details on the development of the game.

When asked why the team decided not to include support for the GameCube controller, Smith stated that they felt they picked the four most popular control methods in the Wii Remote and Nunchuk, sideways Wii Remote, Classic Controller, and Classic Controller Pro, and that any further development on control methods would take things away from the Remix Tour mode, one of the campaign modes in the game.  

Smith also stated that while the team would love to get the game working via the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection for online play, they would only do so if they optimize it to 60 frames per second, and that they hadn't managed to achieve that yet.

Nintendo-Okie asked them about the pending release of the game on Xbox 360 and Playstation 3, which at the time of the interview had not been revealed, and Smith confirmed that while NBA Elite 11 players would get a taste of NBA Jam, the full version with the two campaign modes and gesture controls would remain exclusive to Wii.   

Lastly, Smith confirmed an October 5 release date for the game.

I'd settle for a locked 30fps online experience.

They can't even get 60fps working in most offline games, so I'm not expecting it in a fast paced online game.

So I can get a version of the game that doesn't require a disc and has online play, plus a full NBA sim, for $10 more than the Wii version. That'd better be a damn good extra mode, and the best motion controls we've ever seen.

The things is I'm probably not going to use the extra modes of the Cube version.  When I think about it what I'm likely going to do is just play multiplayer the whole time with my brothers.  The thing is a "taste of NBA Jam" might be all I need.  The original SNES version was pretty basic and didn't have any extra modes.

If this game is full price, heads will roll and sales will stumble.

If they can bring this out for $30 or $40, I think the NBA Elite bonus will be less of a big deal.

Ding!, owww! my nose............. you hit it.

That $30-$40 price point on a well known commodity will make it perfect "impulse" material, specially for those who has paid attention to this project

If this is full price, it will be REAL hard to get this around launch, yes the NBA juices will be flowin around then BUT knowing that by the All-Star break this game will be on major discount AAAND it will more than likely be a stand alone $10-$15 downloadable game for the HD consoles.

And just like Ian Sane said, there ALOT of folk that only want the basic game because that's what they remember and they will have the ease of PSN/XBL for their multiplayer. Additionally I've already heard of folk that are going to purchase NBA Elite get the DL code and sell the retail disk IMMEDIATELY.......serious.
