Putting skins on my consoles first started back in 2006 when I bought some flaming skulls sskins for my PS2. When I bought my DS Lite I put some skull skins on it as well. Finally, I bought my wii in the fall of 2008 and at the time I wanted a black wii, but the white one was the only one available. I was looking through ebay and found what appeared to be NES stlyed skins for the wii. I liked the idea of blending the old with the new and it seemed wise because of the virtual console. I bought the skins for the and put on the console.
Some time later I was at a local mall and I wnrt into this store called "For Your Entertainment." They ahd a large assortment of Nintendo memrobilia including stickers. I bought a couple of them and took them home. At first, I was only interested in putting those stickers on my notebook, but I placed one sticker on my NES wii and I liked what I saw. So, I placed all of Nintendo stickers on the console. I then searched ebay and found a large assortment of Nintendo stickers. Then I proceeded to decorate my wii.
Underneath the sticker that says, "Power to the Players," is where I hot glued a Punisher skull patch on the wii in its early days. When I decided that I did not want it on there any more, I tried to remove it and it tore a hole into the skins and left a bunch of residue that I had to scrape off before I could apply a new sticker. At first, I just placed a circular sticker over the hole, but I had to go with that bigger square one to cover up the hole. If you look close, you can see the outline of where I pulled the patch off.
The reason why I put skins on my console, strange as it may be, is mainly to prevent theft. The son of my uncle's girlfriend stole his PS2 by switching his broken one with my uncle's nearly new PS2. He almost didn't realize it until he started getting disc read errors and examined the console to find that had been abused. Although console skins would not keep a thief at bay, it would helop you know if you are in a situation like the one my uncle was in you could tell if it had been switched, or some one removed the skins themselves.
I am planning to remove all the stickers and replace them with better ones because these are getting old. On some parts the skins are actuallty coming loose from the console. There is a black gunkish reside on ceratin parts of the wii. The smokers in my home have helped the skins on the wii become cracked with yellow stains. Carefully examining the surface of the wii you can plainly see that the skins are wearing down. In short, my wii needs a make over, and I feel like I have an old, raggity house that needs a new paint job.
