3DS Demo Round-Up

Wonder what games were shown off for the 3DS at E3? Then read our feature about it, and then talk about it here.

Classic Collection

This video seemed unnoticed by some people, but it featured a ton of classic games presented with 3D effects. The full list is here, but such notable games as Kirby's Adventure, Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, Punch-Out!!, Mega Man, Excitebike, Castlevania, and Metroid were shown. Apparently, according to Reggie Fils-Aime, these games will be released. How? We're not quite sure yet.

I think we're all quite sure of how *coughVirtualConsolecough* but now we're just waiting on confirmation.

Now, this is just speculation on my part - but if the 3DS "Virtual Console" releases are upgraded to 3D - seems like that would give Nintendo reason to not let us use our VC games we've already purchased.  Perhaps that's why we haven't seen any VC on the DS.
Just some random guy on the internet who has a different opinion of games than you.

That would make it perfectly acceptable as to why there is no current Virtual Console on the DS and why I would possibly buy the same games again, since they are now in 3D.

I was in the minority when I expressed this opinion, but I don't think this is a Virtual Console.  There would be far more effort converting games to 3D then there is customizing the emulator and packing up existing rom files.  Nintendo would either have to charge more of the titles (and risk cutting off impulse buys) or accept lower margins on VC 3DS.

I think it more likely that this game is presented like they plan to sell it, as part of a block they can charge more per game for.

More like 3DSWare

Quote from: CVG
Hello, Virtual Console fans. Are you ready to re-buy all those retro NES and SNES games you've already bought half a dozen times? They're coming out on 3DS with enhanced 3D effects and, possibly, new features. Yeah, we thought you'd be interested.

Nintendo revealed an overwhelming amount of 3DS content at E3 last week. One rolling demo in particular showed several NES and Super NES games, including Yoshi's Island (!), Mega Man 2 and The Legend of Zelda running on the new machine with pop-up book-style 3D effects that split each of the sprite layers used in those old non-polygonal games.

You might assume it was simply a tech demo, but Nintendo America boss Reggie Fils-Aime has confirmed all these titles, and more, will see a proper release on 3DS.

He went on to say not to think of them as ports, but as enhanced versions of classics which could contain new features that take advantage of the 3DS hardware's many other cool tricks (motion control, camera support, analogue control possibly).

Castlevania, Urban Champion, Kid Icarus, Smash Ping Pong, Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros., Tennis, Metroid and Mystery of Murasame Castle were other games shown off in the demo.

And you'll be re-buying every one of them. Again. Sucker.

So a blend of VC and WiiWare to make up what we will know as 3DSWare.
Making all your old games new again.... and in many cases, better too.

He promised the same thing when Virtual Console launched, so I'm not holding my breath.

No way I would rebuy VC games for tacked on 3D.

That statement is definitely opinion. It's not a safe assumption that everyone will prefer to play these old games with arbitrary 3D.
