MGS:3DS
« on: June 18, 2010, 05:03:36 AM »
I'm very excited for this but I do have one question... where is MGS 2?

I wanted to play the series in order on Nintendo systems.

I guess there is always hope that 4 will come to the Wii 2.

Oh wow Kojima my second least favorite MGS game, you surely are earning my spending dollars.

I'd much rather take a different Kojima game. Give the guy a break already Konammy.

I'm excited about MGS 3 as well.  It was one of my favorite MGS games...I never was able to finish it, though.  I had bought it used and the disc was bad.  There's a cutscene in near the game where it always freezes.

Perhaps this will be my opportunity to finish it.

I was always tempted to pick up the PS Collection of the three games, but never did.  I'll be tempted again on this game but most likely won't bite on it.  Too many other games to play.  Maybe when someone does a speedrun of it I'll watch it.

You're really attached to that, aren't you? Not that it matters and it could change at any moment, but I remember that issue being brought up to Hideo Kojima in an old interview and he fumbled some response about how it would be difficult to remake Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2 because they were less advanced games. I think the subtext was that he doesn't want to. Seriously, who cares? Have you even played those games? They're awful. The plots are sophomoric at best and if they were going to remake them, they'd just be making entirely new games anyway. The Solid games barely mention them and they are constantly retconned. Only Snake, Grey Fox and Big Boss are of any significance. I think they mention Dr. Madnar in passing in MGS4. Don't know who that is? Doesn't matter.

Kojima could remake the game and fit into what has been established for the series so far. He could also make the story better and cut out all the awfullness of the older game. Although I would not mind seeing enhanced ports of the older games and possibly a port of Peace Walker, I would not mind seeing a new title involving Big Boss in Afghanistan in the 1980s for the 3DS.

What's the point, though? You're already dramatically changing the gameplay, to heavily modify the story on top of that, it's not even really a remake anymore.

... and this is different from the plots of all the Metal Gear Solid games how exactly?  And I say that as a fan of the series.  ;D

I suggest they re-release the old Metal Gears as WiiWare or on the VC.  Isn't that the obvious way to go?

Needlessly convoluted, but not sophomoric. They at least have substance.

Subtitles like MGS2: Substance prove this, right?  ;)

I'd like to try the old games, if only out of curiosity to the origins to the series.

I have been contemplating the PS trilogy collection but now that 3 is coming I'll just hold out for 2 to make an appearance in the future.

Not that it matters, but it's just 3D (not 3DS). So Metal Gear Solid 3D: Snake Eater according to Konami. In fact, most of the 3DS games use the "3D" name, not "3DS".

The only MSG game i've played was Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes, I may have played the original NES version (but I don't remember).

but we know what he's talking about. Who wants to write out Snake Eater or MGS3DSE?
or the title to any other game when there is only one for the 3DS at this point.

It's the only MG for the 3DS so calling it MGS3DS is perfectly fine.

The Original MG(NES) was cool, the 2nd was different... not bad, but I preferred the Original(NES)
MGS 1 was good, MGS2 was pretty good and MGS TTS was a good remake of 1 with blended elements of 2.

I never played MGS3, MGS4, PW, AC!D or Online.

Is that character model of Snake in Snake Eater 3DS (I'm going to call it this to avoid confusion for myself... uh...) in-game or pre-rendered? I have Peace Walker and I am mighty impressed with the graphics in that game, especially Naked Snake's character model, but that Snake Eater 3DS character model wipes the floor with Peace Walker's Naked Snake.

It was supposedly a real-time non-playable demo.
meaning those are the in-game assets.
which means 1st gen 3DS stuff is mopping the floor with 5th gen PSP stuff.

wait for Monster Hunter 3DS.... Wii and PSP am cry

I'm actually concerned how a MH 3DS would play because of the lack of a second analogue stick for camera control. I guess the D-pap could function but that is less than ideal in my mind.

your touch screen is your second analog.
all the action would happen on the upper screen.

Monster Hunter works perfectly well on PSP and that doesn't have a second analog stick. In fact, my brother actually prefers Freedom Unite to Monster Hunter Tri. Also, there's still a small glimmer of hope that Nintendo will add a second slide pad... ok, no there isn't....

Anyway, I hope to the Flying Spaghetti Monster that Square Enix remakes Final Fantasy VI with proportional character models and structures just so I can see Celes Chere in 3D. That really needs to happen. As much as I bitch about remakes, I'm pretty sure I'll end up buying Ocarina of Time and Metal Gear though the the latter in hopes that Kojima will make a ground up canon Metal Gear Solid for 3DS.

I have to wonder if Konami and Kojima are planning a MGS collection/series remake for the 3DS? If so, I would welcome the idea, but I would prefer MGS 3 on a portable over anything in the series. However, a remake of the original Metal Gear game would be nice as well.

Ah hell, I want Kojima to return to the Snatcher and Policenauts series and release thise games on the 3DS with enhanced graphics and possibly sequels. I happen to be a fan of the Snatcher series and would love to have it on the 3DS.

My idea for another ground up MGS title on a portable, mainly the 3DS, would be set in Afghanistan in the 1980s and would have a middle aged Big Boss(salt and peppered beared and hair?) leading his MSF into a mission.

To anwser your question why MGS3 over MGS2--I think they were smart going with Snake Eater because it was a prequel, the start of it all.  Lets face it, many of nintendo's current fanbase hasn't played a single one so instead of throwing them into the middle of a story they are going with a fresh start.

As for MGS 2, you really isn't missing much--unless of course you want to play as a naked Raiden :(.  And for MGS4, not sure what to make of that one, it had alot of flashbacks for loyal followers but if you skipped over them and just started with that I would assume you would be utterely lost.

Snake Eater was one of my favorites and IMO worth checking out.
