Actually I bought my Star Fox and my Rumble Pack seperately when Star Fox became a Player's Choice title.

I had rented the game a few times before that, and it just started getting to me. I became obsessed with the game and bought a copy.

I continually speak against online gaming with consoles.... but I would actually consider buying a broadband adaptor for Star Fox GCN. I can just imagine how much fun I would have playing Star Fox online.... Nobody will play Star Fox 64 with me anymore because I got too good at it.

My guess is Star Fox 64 sold 1.5 million counting all four major regions. Not as bad as I thought.

Sky, you probably are right about Mario Kart selling the most this year for GCN. It is big in both Japan and America, the key video game markets. Not to mention Europe and Australia are probably anticipating it as heavily just looking at this forum users.

Impressive...whatever Star Fox sold worldwide, I can say with some confidence that it is one of N64's best selling games.

Yes there is always that one or two games that will get someone to buy a game. Definately now is the time to own a Gamecube. With all of these great games already out and those two coming our way, along with some other secrets that will be revealed at E3, Nintendo will get alot of money.

I must be the only Nintendo fan who really deosn't care about the new Star Fox. I enjoyed the original game enough, didn't care that much for SF64, loved SFA, and not excited about Armada. Aside from a passing interest in the pretty graphics, there really isn't much about Star Fox that does anything for me.

I loved Lylat Wars (what we in Australia called Star Fox 64). I remember playing the training mode in stores for the first time, and man! The Rumble pak sold it for me. THere was one massive problem though, in that you couldn't save.
It was old-school gaming though, and that's good, but it's what also made it a short game.
Plus the voices for the characters weren't forced like in Star Fox Adventures. They seemed more natural.
I'm soooo looking forward to Star Fox Armada.

I loved Star Fox 64 sooo much. We use to play battle mode in my house all the time. I loved all range mode, the locking on, summer saults, U-Turns it was so super fun. I remember when ever someone would chase my tail and just do everything I did I would summer sault and shoot a bomb into the ground and make someone fly slowly into the explosion... GOOD TIMES!!!

The voice acting was pretty good for me. It wasn't bad at all. My view of bad is Sonic Adventure. There just wasn't enough tank stages for me. I found the ending to be pretty good with James leading you out of Venom and then vanishing. I thought the way SFA did that same thing with Falco was incredibly forced and stupid, just MO.

Any way can't wait for Armada, I just hope its co-op and is as good as SF64.

you guys know what the sad thing about the n64 versions of star fox and mario kart are?

they are nothing when compared to the super nintendo versions. i find the super nintendo versions to be a lot better and a lot more fun. i cannot stop playing them to this day. i have a feeling the same will hold true with the gamecube versions as well. i will definitely get them, but i doubt they will hold me like the originals.

but rather then saying the snes versions were better than the n64 games
i think this is the reason why you hold them closer to your heart:

they were brand new original games, the n64 games were sequels
the n64 games...you knew what it was gonna be like and it wasn't something
brand new to your imagination...

i for one am looking forward to starfox armada quite possibly more than any other game
i absolutely loved the first starfox and would watch the opening sequence cinema
over and over and over, alas i never did get starfox 64 (i cant remember why the H*** not heheheh)
but i did play it (multiplayer only) at my friends house quite a bit and it was very much fun indeed

i also love the name of the new game starfox ARMADA, pure genius
i see a trend now...rather then tack on GC to the end of their games like they did with the 64...64...64 on so many n64 games, they are coming out with original titles... nintendo never fails to please...!

everyone i know who is a gamer about 20-24 loves this game...the crowd im talking about are for the most part pc gamers...but delve into consoles occasionally. Some reason this game became like a zelda to them. When my bro hears about star fox and mario kart i see his eyes light up in the same way mne light up when i hear about zelda 64. Im actually hoping they put some time into this game. This could truly be a killer app if executed right. Hell i havnt heard the phrase killer app in the longest time. I miss those days. One game would come out and murder everything, sadly nothing has had that reputation lately. And really as far as i can tell not since zelda

Screw voice acting. Let's kick it old school and go back to inane SNES style gibberish. I want to hear Falco say "Doo boo doo rad oo".

Anyway the REAL Star Fox games are some of my favourite games ever so naturally I'm pretty excited about this new one. Some key features I would love to see implemented would be the ability to have four-player missions where everyone plays a member of the Star Fox team. The ability to play the single player game with four players would be amazing but if it's not feasible then simply having a few special four player "training" missions would suffice. Anything involving multiplayer co-op would be great. I'd also like to see some levels where you can switch vehicles as you go. You could start a level with the tank and then have it morph into the Arwing at a key point. In fact having vehicle morphing in certain missions would add a lot of strategy.

One concern I have though is that Nintendo themselves aren't handling the game. I mean Namco is a good developer but they're not NINTENDO good and (much as I'm worried about Sega working on F-Zero) they could f*ck it up. Rare had some Arwing missions in SFA and for the most part they were boring as hell. There's a fine line between inane shooting and dodging, and a well designed and fun game. I'm also worried that, like most non-Nintendo developers, Namco will make Star Fox Armada a cookie cutter sequel without any real new features. I don't want Star Fox 64 with better graphics. Or worse they could take it to the other extreme and completely change the way the game plays.

As for Star Fox 64's sales, that's not a good way to predict Star Fox Armada sales. When Star Fox 64 was released the N64 was the number one console in North America. The Gamecube obviously is not in that same situation. SF64 also had great timing with it's release as it came out right after a game drought which resulted in several starved N64 gamers buying it simply because there was nothing else worth playing. Now SF64 was a worthwhile purchase but I doubt it would have sold as well if it was released a month after a big first party release.

Why should Namco mess it up, theyre under pressure and observation of Nintendo.
And Sega made F-Zero great, the graphics are awesome and the gameplay mechanics are practically the same, and impression so far were awesome.

i think sega has done as good if not better than the nintendo making f-zero
and much of that has to do with nintendo working with them on the title

so i don't think the new starfox will be not as good as the others,
nintendo is working with namco just like they did with sega for f-zero...
so there is nothing to worry about

I liked MK64 over MK SNES, but SF64 is definitely inferior in gameplay to SF SNES. I'm not exactly sure why, considering the N64 version had things like textures, lighting, voices, new vehicles, new gameplay modes, etc... but for some reason I always have more fun with the snes version.

My brother, a senior in college, agrees with me that the snes version is better than sf64. It's rather odd.

As for adventuring...
I sincerely hope there is absolutely no adventuring at all. Starfox is an arcade shooter and it doesnt belong as an adventure except in spinoffs. I'm hopeful that Namco will hold true to the star fox series.

Also, F-zero is looking fine and didn't Sega start about the same time as Namco?
Maybe Namco put it on the back burner or something?
I sure hope not. I *NEED* this game.

You could morph your vehicle in the unreleased Starfox 2 for SNES. Starfox 2 was always all range mode though, which kind of sucks because I like the space rail shooting.

ok i have no idea what this threa is supposed to be about....i kept reading things about eternal darkness and mario kart....but i dont mind if they take a long time with this game as long as the give a coop mode. i wanted a coop mode since the 64 one. i always thought it would be so sweet to have four friends playing as tht four characters.

it takes much longer to make a flight/adventure game than
a racing game

knowing from the past as what f-zero and starfox have had in each game

starfox requires:
1. more voice work
2. more level design
3. more enemies

Word! I loved the Snes StarFox when I was younger. I rented it twice, and after that rent I needed that game. Hopefully Sega and Namco will not break the great REAL Starfox traditions. Great gameplay and action.

Ian Sane, I never played the SNES version, so I never knew what the game was like. I might download a ROM later in the ZSNES emulator and try it out...

Nintendo is working with Namco to develop Star Fox, so you do not have to worry there. Metroid Prime was developed by a team outside of Nintendo and it won Game of the Year in EGM, Gamespot.com, and in an awards ceremony.

Armada's sales will be lower than Star Fox 64, that is a given. However, nobody predicted Armada's sales by looking at Star Fox 64's sales. Check this thread if you want to see.

Star Fox has appeal to people who do not play video games much. Mainly older people out of this group, though. My brother stopped playing video games altogether after 10th grade of high school. Soon, the Nintendo 64 came out and so did Star Fox the summer after. It was probably the only game he liked after he gave up games.
