Well first off you should tell us what your getting it for, PC or Xbox, I think if you have the choice, get it for PC.  The mods and other stuff that people make for that game online are great.  I also heard of people haveing trouble with Morrowind for the Xbox.  Hope that helps a bit.

As has already been said, it depends on what you're getting the game for - X-Box or PC. The PC version is definitely the one to go for if you have the choice, although you will need a fairly decent set up - the game wants a fair amount of RAM and definitely a decent graphics card. I noticed a massive difference when I upgraded from 256Mb RAM to 512Mb and also, I upgraded soon after from a GeForce 2 MX card to a GeForce 4 Ti4200 128Mb. That made a great difference (shiny water whoo! ).

As for the game itself - it's definitely worth getting if you like a very immersive game, with lots to do and essentially, something that will take you a fairly long time to get through. For the PC version there is the Tribunals expansion, added to all the user created mods and bits and pieces out there, plus there is another expansion in the works.

my friend owns an xbox (the good news is he's selling it soon to get a gamecube)
and he doesn't keep up on games as much as I do.
Last summer I read all the great stuff about Morrowind,
so I recommended it to him on his box because he's a big fan of RPGs.
Well, all said and done he told me he didn't find anything great about the game
and he sold it a couple months later.  So I'd ask around more before you
decide to get it.

basically it all comes down to if you are into that type of game
it isn't your normal console rpg- it is very open ended
you go at your leisure and you customize what you want
personally i didnt like it as much as people give it credit for
it was probably because of the lack luster battle system- it isnt that good
its all up to what you want though
i call the big one bitey.

I forgot to add something...
I never heard anyone speak about it on PC
and heard a couple people say it was great for xbox
i have a feeling its one of those titles that received much hype but
in the end did not deliver

I have it. Its not my type of game. If u were into PC RPG's you'll love this. I loved it . . but it was too tedious for me and no real action in the fighting.

I'd say just wait for Fable if u know what that is.

If you're going for PC, there's also Neverwinter Nights.

You could wait for KOTOR on Xbox if you're not sure.

yea I've had my eye on that game since the summer
the create your own levels and scenarios looks awesome
however I rarely buy PC games (only pc games i own starcraft, tribes, and half life)
and usually wait until they're sold for cheaper
so looks like more waiting
but NNights looks spectacular

I wouldn't say that was true, at least not from playing it on the PC. Sure, the game isn't by any means perfect, and some people find the initial quests a little lengthy and tedious - gathering plants etc However, I think that it was definitely one of the better games of last year, and one of the few commercial RPGs released in 2002, that I keep coming back to. It's a beautiful game and it is so easy to lose yourself in it for an afternoon or several...I lost a few weeks of last summer to it, and still didn't get amazingly far in the game. For me, it is one of those games that lasts for ages, because there is no rush to complete it - it's fairly slow paced, and is ideal for people that like to wander around and explore.

Neverwinter Nights has been mentioned here, and I have to say that fits the bill of "over hyped and didn't deliver" far better than Morrowind.

Basically, if you're after a game with instant gratification and amazing action - don't get Morrowind. If you want a challenging and immersive journey through a massive world - do get it.

Morrowind is an AWESOME American RPG. If you like American style RPGS, get it. I make the distinction versus Japanese style RPGS. If you have the choice between the two..... DEFINITELY get the PC version as the Xbox version has bugs. If your PC can handle it..... definitely 100% the PC version...... the PC version has 2 expansion plus a hella lot of mods. If your PC can't handle it, the Xbox version BUT BE WARNED again that the Xbox version has bugs and crashes occasionally ( you gotta save !) . The Xbox version is beautiful. BUT IF you want the Xbox version...... I'd say wait a few months as I have heard that they will be releasing a brand new bug free Xbox Gold version with Morrowind, the expansions plus possibly some of the best mods.
Morrowind is awesome. You can go through the massive amounts of quests, side quests, etc. Or you can actually do nothing and just experience life in Morrowind. You can live a ' life ' there. You can build a small empire, a castle fortress , etc. There was one time when I played I pissed off some merchant NPC and he attacked me, I ran out of town..... he followed me, I jumped into the river ( beautiful water ) and SWAM for a like a mile and he was right on my butt swimming after me to attack me. It was that awesome. If I attacked & killed him in town, I'd have the cops after me..... but since I was so far outside of town and in the river.... I killed him there and his body is still there.

Ehhh...don't be afraid of the Xbox version.  The Xbox bug is rather rare.  I bought Morrowind for the Xbox on release day, and have never had a problem with it....ever.

Now, it is a little different from some RPG's you may have played.  I personally like it quite a bit.  I probably have over 140 hours on it.  Tons of different weapons, armor, magic, and you can customize your own magical weapons, armor, and spells.

Some of the quests are lengthy.  And initially, travelling long distances can be tedious.

Some really great graphics.  Sometimes, you just find yourself staring at the landscape/cityscapes/sunsets.  Good weather effects.

Morrowind has one of the best musical scores of any game out there.

You can join different guilds, and take on tons of "side quests".

My opinion is, if you have an Xbox, rent it, and try it out for yourself.

Bethesda Software announced yesterday that there will be a MORROWIND: GAME OF THE YEAR edition for the Xbox which included the original game ( Patched I assume ) plus both expansions, etc.
So if you are planning on getting it for the Xbox...... WAIT.

It depends what rpgs you like. If you like japanese style ones like zelda and final fantasy were your told what to do and then you walk there and do it then you won't like morrowind. Pretty much the reason many people don't like it and find it boring.

I have it for xbox, btw. You start by getting off a boat, and you choose and identity which gives you better skills in certain areas based on that identity. IE stealth, strength, speed, fields of magic, etc. etc. Heres the part were most players stop playing. You are left in a town were you have decide what you want to do, were you want to go, how you inteact with people. Once you figure out what you want to do, and put in a few hours you will become immersed. I reccomend the game. If you do get it on xbox, wait for an expanded version to come out, which includes the expansion backs from bethesda for the pc.
