Luigi Confirmed For Super Mario Galaxy 2
« on: May 05, 2010, 02:25:31 PM »
The green-suited plumber is returning for the second round.
 http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/newsArt.cfm?artid=23027

Luigi will be returning as a playable character in Super Mario Galaxy 2, according to Nintendo's Super Mario Galaxy 2 YouTube Transmissions.

The past transmissions have showed off different aspects of gameplay, but the eighth entry reveals Luigi as another playable character.

It is unknown whether or not he will assume his role as the reward for collecting all the stars, or if players will be able to choose him from the start.

We'll find out more as we get closer to Super Mario Galaxy 2's May 23 release date.

OH MY GOSH THE GAME IS RUINED FOR ME
This would be my PSN Trophy Card, but I guess I can't post HTML in my Signature. I'm the pixel spaceship, and I have nine Gold trophies.

I know you two are joking, but I'm not.  I don't much care for this.

Do you remember the feeling you had when you completed Star Road in Super Mario World and were sent back to the first stage only now all the Koopa shells had been replaced with Mario masks?  You're never going to experience a feeling like that ever again.
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

For the original game it would have been a spoiler. I don't think it's a big shock that he will also be in the sequel.

I'm of the idea that specific features of new games should not be considered news items unless it's something that would appear in the manual.  Maybe this would be, hard to say, but it seems that ANY info is freely shared in the headlines.  And this isn't an NWR knock this is something every site does.

Such-and-such game to have online multiplayer is a news item.  This is no spoiler.  It's a feature of the game.  You'll know the game has it the second you turn the game on.  But such-and-such character to return or such-and-such unlockable revealed is a SPOILER, so don't mention it.

Yoshi is no big deal for this game because he's on the damn cover.  But this doesn't sound like something that was going to be out-in-the-open.  If Joe Blow, buying the game without knowing anything about it, wouldn't know about something from the ads, the back of the box or the manual then it's a spoiler.

You guys need to stop posting these types of news tidbits.
For those pretty much saying that this isn't a big deal what if people want to find about this type of stuff on our own. It pretty much messes up the experance of knowing things beforehand before you get to find out about it. Another thing there could be people that just stopped playing Galaxy after they got 60 stars and didn't get all the stars.

So yeah cut down on the spoiler news staff.

If Nintendo deems to release something TO THE PRESS AND PUBLIC, then it's not a spoiler.

It's not like this is a rumor or something we secured from an inside source. This is public knowledge.

For ****'s sake, people.

So because Nintendo releases something to the public and press it is deemed not a spoiler. Don't you think it is up to the customer to decide what is a spoiler and what isn't a spoiler?

Nope. It's up the manufacturer/developer of a product to decide what's vital pre-purchase information and what could potentially lessen the experience. It's on them to make that call. If you're the kind of person who has strict guidelines on what is and what isn't a "spoiler," then you're in a slim, hardcore community, which begs this question: if you're on a media blackout for SMG2, why are you visiting a Nintendo-based website?

Seriously, Maxi, the only ones that would care are the die hard fans who put so much thought and emphasis on these things. The average fan and consumers are likely to see these videos and say "Oh, that's neat!", and think nothing else of it.

Want proof of it? Nintendo posts their trailers on the Nintendo Channel (a channel designed for the new Wii audience). These trailers are the most watched videos on the channel, many of them including "spoilers". What does this say to me? It says that people don't mind being spoiled as long as they can watch the latest footage.

Plus, Nintendo knows what they are doing. In the first Galaxy, they did keep Luigi a secret because his inclusion was far more significant there than in the sequel. That was the first time Luigi was a PLAYABLE character in a 3D Mario game (while technically Mario 64 DS was the first, it was a remake). Nintendo did their best to hide this surprise from fans (the spoiler came from a guide scan). But with this trailer, Nintendo doesn't see this as being huge enough to keep secret.

Besides...it's Luigi. Luigi has been a staple of the Mario franchise for decades. Everyone knows who he is, and everyone expects him to appear in a Mario game, one way or another. The REAL surprise would be if he wasn't included in the game, or if another character not common in the 3D Mario games (like Wario, Donkey Kong etc.) made a playable appearance instead.

Stop making a big deal out of it.

Dude, it's awesome that you like the community here, and I'd never discourage you from taking part in it, but this is a risk you run. If you're hanging around the sub-forum where we post news, then you're going to see information that Nintendo's made public. I just don't see the point in being secretive about something that Nintendo's gone out of their way to make not a secret.

People complaining about this are like those people who complain about movie discussions involving stuff seen in the official trailer for the movie. Nintendo released a promo video announcing Luigi, so it doesn't count as a spoiler.
