Extra Life #1: Prince of Persia: The Fallen King
« on: April 28, 2010, 01:11:14 PM »
Extra Life is a weekly column focused on giving games a second chance. Each week, I'll look at one game that I missed. It could be a game that received universal appraisal, or one that seemingly nobody played.
This week's entry is Prince of Persia: The Fallen King, which came out in December 2008 on the DS.

Check out the feature here

Haha! You're right!

Let me know what you guys think. This feature will likely be a work in progress until I knock down a formula for it. Also, for the record, I won't always be doing crappy games, and I'm open to recommendations (as long as they fit the "I haven't played it" criteria).

I'll also have a "logo" sent to Neal tonight, so you can look forward to that.
This would be my PSN Trophy Card, but I guess I can't post HTML in my Signature. I'm the pixel spaceship, and I have nine Gold trophies.

I like this feature. Made me glad I never touched the game. It's nice to know I didn't miss anything.

I like all the new features popping up.

I thought this way great.

There was a recent SXSW panel w/ Chris Kohler where part of the discussion was about how two weeks after a game is released the press completely forgets it ever existed.  (Kohler posted it on Game|Life so if you haven't checked it out you should!)  I agree that it's a big problem and I'm really excited about this feature.

It sound like The Fallen King kind of sucks so I wouldn't expect you to play through the entire thing, but I hope you'll be able to put more time into future games if they're good and/or demand more playtime (for instance, playing through the first hour of an RPG probably won't cut it.) :)
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

I think I might be shying away from RPGs for that very reason. If I want to keep these weekly, I'm going to have to keep them set to an hour or so of gameplay, or, in this game's case, as much as I could stand.

I'll pull a Karl and tease upcoming games. Right now there are three in the pipeline, and here's a hint for each one (in no particular order):

1) I'm having nightmares just thinking about it.
2) A new game in the franchise just got announced for a different platform.
3) An early Nintendo downloadable game.

Okay, I just tried the demo of the next DS PoP (it's on the Nintendo Channel here), it's still touchscreen based. Kinda reminds me of Assassin's Creed in that you just point where you want to go and the prince automatically jumps over gaps, swings on poles and climbs them up when needed.

It is? I wanna try it for myself. I have a bad feeling it's going to control the same way.

This is the only one left. The other two were Lostwinds and Silent Hill. wonder what it is.

IGN didn't like it but the review is pretty close to a tirade against "casual" gamers.

This is the only one left.

Technically, this could have also applied to Shattered Memories.

It doesn't.

Actually, that game that is hinted at is delayed until next week. This week's will be coming later today. I graduated college today, so I need some time to polish it before I post it.
