Has anyone used their Wii with a laser pico projector?
« on: April 26, 2010, 09:39:15 PM »
Hey all, newb here  :Q

Has anyone tried hooking their Wii up to one of these new laser pico projectors? They look pretty cool but kind of expensive. I am trying to figure out what I can use it for before deciding whether or not to splurge. I've asked in a couple forums but no responses so far. Who has used one that can give me some feedback? Do they work look good with video games?

Here is some a recent review I found of the Aaxa L1. There is this one and a similar one made by Microvision. http://www.projectorcentral.com/aaxa_l1_laser_pico_projector_review.htm

Found a pic of it online

I might be too new to post pics and stuff without looking like sir Spamalot. If I need to I can just pm the info to anyone who can volunteer to help me. Just let me know and thanks for the help!

Mini projectors are good for academic/govt/business meetings where you're outta luck not getting a proper projector and screen on short notice, or group gaming on-the-go.  It will never replace a proper TV if a room tends to be lit.  There will be additional cost to get necessary adapters if you need Component Video hookups, and you'll need to supply decent speakers.

Best Buy has a different one for $300

Thanks NinGurl. I did a little more research and it looks like they have no problem hooking up to a Wii. I think it would be awesome to use for "gaming on-the-go" like you mentioned. Agreed that it won't replace a full on home theater setup at home. For some reason it just seems like the laser technology would handle faster movements better. What do you think? I saw the Optoma 201 that you sent me only has 20 lumens as well. There are other models by aaxa, the company who makes the L1, that are brighter and I think some other companies do brighter ones as well. The L1 isn't the brightest available, but the laser is what has my curiosity :)

Does anyone actually own one that can help us out?

Thanks!

I've tested a variety of pico/pocket projectors recently including the AAXA L1.  The laser projection concept if very cool and offers some interesting properties that are not available elsewhere (mainly infinite focus) but the cost and brightness don't compare favorably to some of the LED based units out there (including AAXA's own P2 and M1 projectors).  If I were you, I'd try and get some hands-on time with a couple options to see what features are the most important to you.
