Topic: Upgrading the fridge

With all the stuff that's coming out lately on VC and WiiWare (and the fact that I can actually play it all comfortably now with my new Classic Controller Pro), it looks like it's finally time for me to upgrade to a new SD card.  My current one's only 1 GB, and I've had to do some clever rearranging to keep the stuff I absolutely want on my SD card or System Memory.  I've held back on getting a new one until the prices started to come down, and it looks like they have.  Amazon has a pretty good price right now for an 8 GB model, but can anyone tell me for sure if the Wii will accept this card?

With 8x the storage capacity, I should be able to redownload all the old stuff I had to delete and will probably be set for the rest of the Wii's lifecycle.

The Wii likes my 8gb card. I'm pretty sure it can read any standard SDHC card up to 32gb.

Alright, good to know.  32 gb is a tad excessive for the amount of stuff I download, but 8 gb should be just fine.  I was just wary since reading the comments some people noted that some devices can't read the SDHC cards.

Yeah there was a update that happened at GDC I think a year ago that makes it so that 32 GB SDHC cards are accepted. At the time of the update 32 GB cards were I think $100. They likely came down in price a little bit.

If the 3DS uses SD cards and it has a movie player it will need biiger SD cards with more storage to hold the video file because they are huge. I used wii video 9 to put some movies on my wii(converted them .avi) and they took up about three and a half gigabytes on my wii's 8 GB card. After all of the downloads, I have about 57,000 blocks of memory on my card. I have used about 5,000 blocks of memory for all my VC games.

that should solve your problems for a decent price, and it's even quicker than the last card I liked to.

You could buy the 8GB card for under $20 now or the $16GB card for more than $40 Now.

By the time you actually need more than 8GB, you'll likely be able to get the 16GB card for under $20.  And then you'll have the back-up 8GB card and have spent about the same amount of money.

That's pretty much the theory I'm working with.  I only need 8 GB (and that's probably still way more than I'll ever need, judging by how infrequently great WiiWare and VC titles trickle out), so I'm only buying 8 GB.  With the way that these things drop in price over time, by the time I need anything bigger (if ever), the cards will be pretty cheap to replace.

8 GB is all you need, and probably much more than you need. My massive library of VC and WiiWare games isn't even that close to taking up half of my 8 GB card.

Ask yourself if you really need an 8gb card. Wouldn't a 4gb or even 2gb fill your needs? You could also go with multiple cards. If you need 8gb of space it may make more sense to have two 4gb or four 2gb cards instead of one 8gb. I might be wrong, but I think you can get the same capacity spread out over multiple small cards for cheaper than on one single huge card. If nothing else, having multiple cards means you aren't putting all your eggs in a single basket, which means if something happens to that 2gb or 4gb card (lost, stolen, broke, etc.) then its not as huge a loss as if it were an 8gb one.

VC games take up more space. I'm pretty sure each VC game comes packed in with the emulator. It makes the game's file size larger, but makes sure each game will emulate properly. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong.)

I've heard that certain SD cards over 2GB might not be recognized by games released before the update. For example, Animal Crossing City Folk might not be able to save photos to larger SD cards.

I haven't heard of people having an issue with Shop Channel downloads, though.

it implies a past tense, and whose to say they weren't all legal homebrew games i much prefer virtual console to play games, there are usually problems with non-official emulation. Punchout for instance has been documented to not work well for most emulators because it included an extra processing chip for larger sprites, plus the Wii controller makes an ideal nes controller replacement. When I used to emulate it was before the video game companies had a reasonable solution to play old style games, there was an unavailability. People really wanted to play the classic style but couldn't. It seemed like Nintendo and other companies would never re-release old titles and had turned their back.  However, Virtual Console fixed this and you should buy the games. Still aint nothing like the real thing. Take your cartridge, put it under your shirt, blow on it(i don't give a **** if they say it doesn't work, it does..ritual bitches, I refurbished my NES anyhow) stick it in your machine just right, i bought a dogbone nes controller for my ol' intenda. Although since i refurbished my nes, none of my Tengen games work, ****.
