Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2
« on: April 22, 2010, 07:59:25 PM »
I have been looking around this forum for a while have not seen any mention of the upcoming sequel to The Force Unleashed. A few months ago I saw a revealt trailer at the Spike video awards. There is no doubt that the game will be made for the HD consoles, but the wii willl get its due. However, looking back on the first wii game made by Krome studios, I can not help but say that if the wii game is to be released, it must be of better quality than its predacessor.

The first is graphics, the first game was generally good graphics wise, but with such games as Monster Hunter 3 and No More Heroes 2 along with the first party games, there is no excuse for the Unleashed 2 to inferior in the graphics department. The cutscenes for the first game were kind of lazy, they should be better animated for the sequel.

Next we have the controls. To me it was kind of a pain in the ass to constantly swing the wiimote to attack. I would much prefer the style of No More Heroes and since Starkiller will be dual wielding light sabers in this one, it makes it all the better. Secondly, motion plus should be added in some where to make the controls more precise.

1.  It doesn't exist.

2.  If Lucas Arts makes a Wii game, it's going to be lazy.

3.  If you ask for Motion Plus, expect to swing the controller the entire damn time.

Supposedly LucasArts wanted to put Wii MotionPlus in the first game, but Nintendo announced Wii MotionPlus only two months before it came out (since most of the major publishers said that they didn't find out about it until Nintendo announced it in that press release in July 2008).

Ningurl, what makes you think the Wii version (which is basically confirmed; a Tweet from LucasArts linked to the Amazon listing, which includes a Wii version) would be lazy? The Wii version got practically the same review scores: the Xbox 360 version average 73.82%, the Wii version 73.35%, the PlayStation 3 version 72.5%.

As for your third point, we can't tell because Wii MotionPlus support has not been confirmed.

According the game's web site it coming out on PS3, 360, wii, DS and PSP. I just thought the first game for the wii was kind of lazily produces and want better quality for the wii sequel. I mean the wii is no HD console, but it is no last generation console either. There is much they could do to make this game specieal.

The graphics were lazy, but the controls were really good. The rest of the gameplay was pretty similar between versions.

I played the original recently and liked it enough to buy it, although with my various discounts and credits it only cost me $4. The sequel and its use of Motion+ gives them a real opportunity to differentiate the Wii version from the others and give people a reason to buy it instead of (or in addition to) the 360/PS3 version.

How exactly would the Natal version work? Do you pick up a broomstick and swing it wildly around the room?

Not unless they want to get sued. I think Sony patented using household items to represent in-game items on screen.

I could have sworn I made a topic about this a while ago...odd. I still have the image in my photobucket account from when I made a post about it.

Maybe I was about to make a thread about it and then searched to discover one was already made or something.

Is Krome confirmed to be making the sequel? I have high hopes for what they can do with M+ and more time with the Wii. Prettier graphics is a must.

The only stuff guaranteed canon are the movies. Stuff like the extended universe and the first Force Unleashed games are secondary canon (meaning that they are canon, except when they contradict something from the movies. If the movie says one thing and something in the extended universe says something else, the movie is considered correct).

I hope that Krome Studios does not return to develop the sequel. Perhaps Lucasarts could find a more competent studio to do the work. After seeing such games as No More Heroes2 and Monster Hunter 3 there is no reason why the graphics for this game should be bad.

Everything by Lucasarts is the same as movie canon.

And regardless of the status of the EU, the fact is that the entire storyline of the first game was... how shall I put it...

The canon system for Star Wars is a mess. I much prefer that of Star Trek, where if it didn't happen on camera it doesn't count, even though there are several novels I'd love to be canon.

If George Lucas had actually cared about the universe he created past RotJ, the canon wouldn't be such a mess. Greenlight things that are canon, put a stop to things that aren't. It's not that hard. Unfortunately, he's a money hungry f***er, and he greenlights anything that will make him more cash.

All they would have to do is something like Paramount does. All of the live action shows and the 11 movies are canon (the Animated Series is not, most of the 11th movie takes place in a alternate timeline and thus doesn't screw up the real timeline). This means Star Trek novel writers, comic writers, game developers, etc. can do almost anything they want (obviously they need approval, Paramount would not allow something like sex stories) without messing up the canon.

There is actually a person at Lucasfilm who has the job of accepting if something is of cannon or not. Everything now being made is pretty much accepted as cannon. Any new stuff has to go through her and she corrects mistaken facts and chooses what of the old stuff is accepted as cannon. Before that there was a good deal of confusion on the matter and a lot of pathetic stuff was made.

Old comics are not cannon but parts of them have been taken as cannon in their own way. I can even point out things in the prequel trilogy that are specifically from the old comics.

A general rule of thumb is that the full novels are cannon but childrens books, games and comics are not unless there is a specific mention of them in the novels. Kyle Katarn is cannon, Exar Kun is as well. Those were originally game and comic inspired characters.

Gene Roddenberry insisted that the novels and the animated series not be canon, and because of that there's all kinds of contradictory stuff in the old ones. In the last 10-15 years they've been pretty careful about what happens in the novels and the vast majority of stuff from that era fits in just fine with established canon, but it would be even more of a mess than Star Wars if some novels were canon and others weren't.

I personally consider Michael A. Martin and Andy Mangels' Enterprise relaunch novels, as well as Greg Cox's Eugenics Wars novels, to be canonical, even though they aren't officially part of it.

The biggest question I have to ask is how did Starkiller survive the explosion and make it out of the death star? I am speculating that the Emperor kept his body in stasis thinking that he may have been still alive or he was keeping him for research. Either was Starkiller probably escaped from the empire and is now earning a living by competing in an arena battle colliseum.

I hope that development team bring back the shadow guard, those guys in the back armor with light saber pikes. They were very kick ass and I would love to take them on again. I would bet that the Emporer dispatches them to capture or kill Starkiller and his allies.

A rematch with Vader and the Emperor is a definent possibility. I can not but wonder if this game will allow you to kill Vader, or spare him? Although it would seem like too much of a rehash to follow in the same foot steps as the first game.

One more thing that would make the game good is if Shaak Ti was still alive. I know that she swallowed up by the mega sarlac on Felucia, but she could have some how escaped like Boba Fett.
