That's what everyone says, but clearly, once someone plays every N64 game, they realize they are all the best-something-ever.

Where does Wikipedia say the number of NA releases? The portion you quoted says 42 games were exclusive to NA.

387 -84 Japanese Exclusives -4 Europe Exclusives = 299.

Although, I guess that doesn't account for Europe and Japanese Games that weren't released in the US....

Right, it doesn't. There were a few of those. One is Rakuga Kids, I'd have to look up the supposed other two.

Okay, I cut and pasted the list into Calc, sorted by region and removed anything that was released in NA.

...296!

I never should have doubted you!

Sounds nifty. Do you think you could count the list in that auction you posted? I'm curious if there are 296, or if anything is listed which shouldn't be there.

I did one better.  Sorted the trimmed down list from Wikipedia alphabetically, then pasted his list beside it (as he had his in mostly alphabetical order).  Looks like they match up (aside from a few mistakes on his part with the alphabetizing).

Wonder where he gets the 300+ number from...

He might have some dupes, that's my guess... unless he has always been too lazy to count his games over the past ten years.

That actually might not be a bad price for that 64DD lot. I don't really know the value of it, but I know it's all rare stuff. And it's all in nice condition with boxes for most stuff.

Sadly, $1,500 probably isn't much less than that all game auction will go for.

That auction ended up going for $2,025, by the way.

Here's another auction of interest

That's almost exactly was I would expect it to go for.

I think they featured the FuN CenteR in Nintendo Power before. What I find interesting is that the seller says they have more than one. I wonder where they got them from...?

Neat idea. $3 each seems a bit high though..

*edit* Maybe not...

Don't order from this guy.
Turns out, he ripped a lot of the work from TheCoverProject.net and is now selling it for a profit.
Scummy.

Perhaps I spoke too soon...

Those are pretty sharp. I kind of wonder why Nintendo chose not to stretch the label out over the top, did they really save money by doing so? I guess with the price of cartridges, every little bit helped.  Looks like they think there are 289 Nintendo 64 games instead of 296. I'm going to guess they took the list from Nintendo's website, which has 289 on it. I'd have to find some of my old notes to tell you which labels you wouldn't get if you ordered the full set.

There's some discussion about this on the NintendoAge forums - it appears in the full set you can order for $100, you'd get all 296 labels...

i dont think i'd pay 40 for that, but i would totally make them myself now that i've seen that, i have marker on the top of most of my n64 games except a couple for aesthetic reasons, but this is much classier.

But he is still providing a service. I do think he should give credit to them, but it's not like he is doing anything illegal (since TheCoverProject can't copyright those images). I am not condoning it, but he is offering a service that TCP doesn't.

Think of it this way - Pretend I took the sprites, music, backgrounds and SFX from, say, the original Zelda and created a whole new game, uploading it on the internet for anyone to freely download - asking nothing for it.

Then, someone comes along, takes my ROM and reproduces it onto a reproduction cart, selling the carts for $100 and giving me absolutely no credit or profits and making no effort to inform people where he got the ROM from.

Would you still say it good that he's providing a service that I don't?

but he is printing it on to stickers for people to apply that are already cut out to fit perfectly on the carts.

there was actual effort, manufacturing and overhead for something like that.

I'm sure it's only expensive now because he didn't buy the sticker vinyl in bulk.

$3 individually is kinda expensive, but $100 for 296 of them seems more than reasonable.

what would be nice of him though would be to put up the source for those that want to print/cut it out for themselves

Actually, he mentions in one of his posts that he works in a sign shop - so I'm willing to bet he (well, the shop he works for) did buy the sticker vinyl in bulk.

what would be nice of him though would be to put up the source for those that want to print/cut it out for themselves

If he did that, there probably wouldn't be any complaints.
If he submitted them to TCP as well, I'd bet there wouldn't be any complaints at all.

I'm pretty sure that the box images are copyright, so does that make these illegal?

Hard to say, id put it under fair use. They would have those images copyright for the making of boxes, but unless the companies started making stickers themselves than there is no monetary conflict. So, no point to sue.

The problem with this analogy is that Nintendo would send their lawyers after you before you even finished the game so he'd never have a game to steal.

UncleBob's example actually happened. It's called Zelda Outlands, and there's a site out there that sells an NES cartridge of it (I have no idea if they have permission from/credit the hack creator or not). That probably isn't the only example out there, either.

Nada.  Mop it up mentioned just one example of many, many home brew titles that have ripped art from other Nintendo titles.  Nintendo's actually been pretty laid back when it comes to stuff like this - I'm not sure I've ever really heard of a case of them going after someone... if I had, I assume OoT2D would have been hit, since it was virtually the most high-profile game of this type I can think of.
