Konami announced that they will distribute Def Jam Rapstar, a hip hop-focused music game.

The game makes you the star of the show, using a microphone to freestyle and rhyme in videos, made using a compatible camera. Videos can be shared with the integrated community online. No specifics about the Wii version have currently been released.

Def Jam Rapstar is developed by 4mm Games, Terminal Reality, and Def Jam Interactive. It will be available on consoles including Wii in fall 2010.

A sample of the tracks is listed in the press release below.

I'm glad they finally found a publisher, they announced the game a couple of months ago but didn't have a publisher and didn't specify any platforms. I don't really have any interest in the game (I don't care about singing, and I only recognize two of those songs), but I am glad it is coming to the Wii for those who do want it.

By "diverse" do you mean "a bunch of meaningless mainstream crap"? Because that's all it is. If you think that's diverse, you don't know anything about hip-hop. None of these songs even reflect what rap and hip-hop even are. It's pretty much disgusting.

Are you one of those people that bitch about a music game having songs that people might actually recognize? That is why I don't really care for most of the Guitar Hero/Rock Band games, the majority of the songs are ones that you have to be a big fan of the artist to have even heard of them.

Video review maybe?

I think the song list is fine.  Who else would you rather have on there? Generic Backpacker Rapper #2591?

That is why I don't really care for most of the Guitar Hero/Rock Band games, the majority of the songs are ones that you have to be a big fan of the artist to have even heard of them.

Uh... No. Not at all. 95% of the music in GH/RB is all super mainstream that you can hear by turning on a radio in any part of the United States. I despise almost all the music in those games, but I've still heard of most of it.

The video game industry is not the music industry. In fact, music games are the PERFECT medium for exposing people to new music that they won't hear on the radio or on MTV. The effect is a little diminished in the GH/RB games because the track lists are so large, and honestly most of the artists they pick have managed to produce at least SOMETHING worthwhile in their careers.

However, based on this list, this game is just a travesty. And no, I'm not bitching because it's music that people will actually recognize. I'm bitching because they're acting like this game is going to be a good indicator of the rap and hip-hop genres when all they've released so far is the biggest bunch of bull**** I've ever seen in my life. 50 Cent has never produced a meaningful lyric in his entire life, and to suggest that he in any way represents rap or hip-hop as an art form is just embarassing and wrong.

I think the song list is fine.  Who else would you rather have on there? Generic Backpacker Rapper #2591?

I don't really know what that means. I do know that there is nothing unique or interesting about any of the artists in the list so far, so I'm not really sure what you're getting at with "generic" since this list pretty much embodies it. You flip on the crappy rap station anywhere and you're going to hear the same kind of "f**k bitches get money" songs from ALL these "artists." FFS one of these songs is actually called "I Get Money." It's a joke. The only people on here that are worth anything are only on here because they're "classic" and people expect them to be there, but not actually because they care about them or their music. That being 2 Pac, Biggie, and WTC.

What I'm saying is that this game is meant to be played with people who aren't necessarily huge hip-hop fans, so there no point in putting like, Sage Francis on it because that would go WAY over most people's heads.

Complaining about the rap on this game's soundtrack being "too commercial" is like complaining about American Idol not being underground enough.

first i got the typical Aentaris Autotune, but it had an expiration date, so that wasnt going to last long

Then i found the GVST: GSNAP for Audacity, and the settings..you gotta play with it for a bit to get it to go with your voice
