Nintendo Interested in Future Kid Icarus Title

Sakamoto states that nothing is in the works, but those that want the game should speak out.
 http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/newsArt.cfm?artid=22762

In an interview with Kotaku, Nintendo producer Yoshio Sakamoto stated that no new Kid Icarus title was in development for Wii, but stated that any fans who would like to see such a game should speak up.

The franchise, which hasn't been seen since a Game Boy sequel to the original NES title in 1991, has been long rumored to be resurrected on modern consoles.  However, nothing has ever materialized.  Nintendo themselves have fueled the fire to some extent, bringing franchise lead character Pit out of retirement for Super Smash Bros. Brawl in 2008.  The last time the series saw stores shelves was in 2004, when the original Kid Icarus was released for the Game Boy Advance in Japan as part of the Famicom Mini series.

In the interview, Sakamoto said, "I don't know personally about any project underway regarding Kid Icarus, but if so many of those people are interested in it and really want to see it on the Wii, they should really speak up."  Later, he added, "If we can find some sort of way to bring it to the Wii, a way to make the game for the Wii that makes sense, we would happily do so, but just keep in mind it might not be me making the game."

The original Kid Icarus is currently available on the Virtual Console for 500 Wii Points.

Speak up? I don't think I have heard anyone stay quiet about wanting another Kid Icarus. That said I would way prefer a new Piltowings.

That's always the problem.  There doesn't seem to be a line back from global consumers back to Nintendo in Japan.

As cynical as it is to state it, I'm pretty sure Nintendo only really cares if Japanese Nintendo fans want a Kid Icarus or not.  Is there a line back for Japanese consumers?  Can we fake our nationality to get our voices heard?

We got a Sin & Punishment sequel because it sold well on the VC; obviously Nintendo is saying the NES Kid Icarus has to sell well to get a new game in the series. I've already done my part. The 4th level really sucks, but the odds are that most people won't make it that far anyway.

I couldn't beat the 1st level. Why didn't they have a super-guide back then? or a VC super-guide to help you beat all those games you couldn't beat when you were a kid.

DING DING DING.

Europe, Australia and America are (financial dependence aside) the ugly step children whose needs are catered to after their favourite is tended to first. So while it's potentially pleasing they're evn acknowledging its existence... this would have far more global weight if Reggie or Reggie's European counterpart (Lord Reggie Warburton of Lincolnshire?) said this.

Nintendo should focus on new franchises rather than bring back this corpse. I know Kid Icarus is somewhat different than similar games of its era (most notably Metroid), but what does it do better than those other games? What aspects of Kid Icarus are truly worth revisiting?

if there was a zelda game with jumping and flying it would be kid icarus. Though, i know classic kid icarus isn't really like this, but in 3d it would be.

I'm quite certain that about 90% of the people asking for a new Kid Icarus have absolutely no idea what they're asking for or have any suggestion on how a new entry of the series would even play like.

Though I would like to see a new one just because Nintendo loves their franchises.  I think the odds of them revisiting an old IP is far greater than them busting out something brand new.  Kid Icarus is old enough that a modern 3D sequel would practically be a new IP in itself.  Plus if Nintendo is going to milk the **** out of their franchises they might as well do it with ALL of them so as to provide us with more variety.  I'll support a resurrection of Battle Clash and Mach Rider if it'll get something on the shelf other than another Mario spin-off or a Wii series non-game.

Third-person shooters are a genre that works very well on the Wii and yet are very underrepresented on the console, even more so than first-person shooters. Kid Icarus would translate nicely into one, with platforming elements and limited flight. Kid Icarus always felt to me like what would happen if you took Mario, Zelda, and Metroid and mixed them all together; it would be interesting to try that with the 3D iterations of those series.

If there is a new Kid Icarus then it better not be anywhere near as difficult as the NES game. Kid Icarus is not a fun game.

as much as i like Tingle, i think before they release a new Tingle game they should release a new Kid Ikarus game, i can't say i'm a fan of the original because of its annoying difficulty, but i  love the theme, and the soundtrack too. Great things could be done with this franchise if they gave it the Zelda OOT treatment.

I'd rather see Nintendo create a new noteworthy IP than reanimate this wretched corpse, especially since they've created so few new IPs in the last decade.  Besides, a new Kid Icarus game would just be Zelda with Wings, and I'd rather see an actual Zelda games where Link has wings.  ;)
