This morning Nintendo provided the long-awaited North American launch date for their DSi XL handheld at their Q1 Media Summit.  Gamers will be able to get their hands on the jumbo-sized piece of hardware on March 28, for $190.00 USD.

The Nintendo DSi XL is the company's attempt to introduce their ultra-successful handheld platform to older gamers, who perhaps shy away from the original model due to its small screen size.  It was released in Japan as the DSi LL on November 21, 2009, where it moved 100,000 units in its first two days on the market.

$189.99 isn't bad, I was worried because in Japan it is about $220. I was thinking about getting a DSi, I might just spend the extra $20 to get the DSi XL.

yeah if I were gonna get a DS at all any time soon I would definitely get the XL for only $20 more than the DSi...  but they're already talking about the next Nintendo handheld!  that makes it a little hard to want a NEW DS at this point.  then again they may not release the next Nintendo handheld in America till next holiday season.  okay I take it back if they offer a good trade in deal on older DS's then I'd definitely consider the XL :-D
At some point, I'd think Nintendo fans would get sick of the anticipation and just say "screw it," but Nintendophiles are odd, odd creatures indeed.<BR>—Chris Carle, IGN

$189 is too rich for me, I'll save my money and get the DS2 this Holiday instead.

I had high hopes and low expectations that the DS Lite would drop to $100, the DSi would drop to $130-$150 and the XL would launch at $150-$170...  *sigh*.

Anyone know if there's any way to transfer my DSi Shop account from my current DSi to a DSi XL?

Officially, Nintendo doesn't support DSi upgrades.  However, I've heard stories about Nintendo recovering your account to a new system if you happen to break or lose your current system.  You could probably make it happen if you new system just so happens to be a DSi XL.
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

Considering that Nintendo has not even ANNOUNCED the DS 2 yet, you gonna be waiting much longer than just this holiday. Hell, the only info we even have on the DS 2 is that they are working on it.

If the bigger screen is well received I would like Nintendo to take that into account for the DS2.  BUT they should try to make the biggest screen they can with the highest RESOLUTION they can.  Making everything look like blocky horseshit isn't the way to go.

But it has to be small in order to be portable and to be cheap and have good battery life. They could make it the size of a laptop, but how much of a portable would it be then? It is nice if portables have big screens, but it is also important that they be portable and can fit into a bag or pocket.
is your sanity...

I think you are missing the point he was trying to make.

He's talking about a DSi XL sized screen, but saying that they should get the biggest sized screen with the highest resolution possible that will fit in a DS2 and fit within the cost restraints Nintendo has set for the system.

Pretty sure there is not.

Everything I'm reading so far says this is true.  How said.  I've spent 12,800 Points and have 12,400 more stored on the system ($252 worth total - Thanks Pepsi!).

Basically, this means a DSi XL will run me about $450.  Sucks.

I thought about getting a DSi XL, but the $20 added price and reduced pocket-ability is making me stay with my original DSi plans.

I thought you could just do a DS account transfer from old DS to new DS?  The shop account doesn't move with your DS account??

Wait, what? The maual for the shop channels says you can't have more than 10k on your account.
