Mario Kart: Double Dash Question
« on: April 23, 2003, 05:04:38 AM »
I have a question, I know you guys are all freaking out, but I'm kind of disappointed. How will it work in single player? Does a computer control your items? I rathered to be able to drive and control items. I hope this kind of gameplay will still exist, because without it, single player will suck.

I think it will just be another feature. You can play by yourself where you control the driving and weapons, or you can play with a partner where one drives and one shoots. I for one would rather control both myself, but it is a nice feature. I hope that there are more characters as well.

Nothing has indicated someone else is controlling the second character. I'd say you just use items as per usual, but it shows the second character attacking with the item, and switching between the characters on the fly is done with a simple press of a button.

My guess is if you have control over the second character, it's very limited as to just aim and what not, and I think that would be accomplished with the C-Stick.

yep, that's what it looks like to me, too.  It doesn't really make sense to have these attacks just magically appear from your kart, so they added another person per kart.

So basically you pick one person for their driving ability, and they drive, and another for their attacking ability, and they attack.  You can switch if you need to, which adds a lot of strategy to the game (so you have to be good with both drivers).  And rather than simply attacking in front and behind, you should be able to use the C-stick to attack in any direction.  Control stick == driving, C-stick == attacking.  Makes perfect sense.  It should also make for some amazing battle-mode games.

I just hope they include bots in battle mode.

amen.
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

It HAS been confirmed for 2 player co-op

i would assume that your partner is forced, ie you can only be yoshi and birdo for example, and as for controlling the second player, perhaps they would use auto aim? i mean trying to take a corner at 150 clicks while trying to aim, could result in some funky angles that your hands have to perform.. either way we will just have to see

I think you can mix and match whoever.  There are screenshots that have Mario teaming up with Peach and Luigi which suggest you can switch partners around.

You can pick your partner. You also can switch during a race. The strategy for the game just went up like 10 times. Each person has their own weapons.

if you had a team like koopa and wario, you could use koopa during the part of course with lots of turns and use wario for the rest.

Where? Everything I've read on 2 player co-op is just speculation by news sites.

You will be controlling both characters. It'll play just like the old Mario Karts in terms of control most likely w/ maybe a new addition.

There isn't even a 2 player co-op mode confirmed yet. It's all bunch of speculation along with some rabid "post before you think" people who post that it's co-op without doing their homework.

oh hey, we don't need a ton of threads to talk about the same thing.  See the Mario Kart thread below or the one in Talkback.
