With 1 choice!?

I was hoping for 8 of those 10.

I've already decided to buy this, but now maybe I'll get it closer to day 1.

Oh well I thought I only saw you mention you wanting one of those.

In anycase I have been reading on some forums that the game was released last night and many people have picked it up today as well.So check around.

I've seen a few people around work with a copy of the Wii version, so I wouldn't be surprised if it was in stores today.

And btw, if for whatever reason people are still interested in the Wii version, 1up just gave it an A-.

I'm still interested in the Wii version, primarily due to the fact that I own neither a 360 or PS3.

I dropped by the local Future Shop in my area this morning, but it turns out not a single one of their stores received any copies of the game, and they are a pretty big retailer.

Well I just thought I would mention that if you want to pick up Jam the best place would be is a Kmart since they give out a $15 coupon towards a future purchase.Have to pick up Jam before the 9th though as that is when the offer will be over.
Might want to call ahead to your local Kmart to make sure it is offering it though.

I got two e-mails from amazon today. One said the game has shipped and should arrive on Saturday. Good to know. The other e-mail was a surprise, informing me that I get a $10 credit that can be applied to my next video game order. NOT TOO SHABBY, guys.

Interesting...
http://kotaku.com/5659920/nba-jam-nba-elite-and-a-tale-of-two-videos

Guy bought NBA Elite '10 for PS3 from some dude on eBay.  Came with everything except the case.

EVERYTHING.  Including the NBA Jam download code.

Which worked.

Which, apparently, also includes an ad for downloading "the Remix pack, coming to you soon."

There was never any plans to offer Wii owners anything special.
Just some random guy on the internet who has a different opinion of games than you.

Eh, not like Remix Tour is all that great anyway.  I've been renting the game and I've pretty just played it all weekend.  Classic mode is just like the NBA Jam I remember from my youth.  But Remix Tour is basically a playground for the game's cheap AI.

So, I got NBA Jam. I played a few games by myself and a bunch more with a friend. I really enjoyed it. Then, I nearly cut off the tip of my thumb at work and got 4 stitches... so I can't play too many video games for a while. (I can still play Dragon Quest 9... with a stylus and I could do a few motion games, I'm sure.) Nevertheless, this was bad timing, not like there's a good time to slice your thumb.

I enjoyed it. I really liked the old simple formula and it's still here [the last version I'd played was Tounement Edition for SNES]. They've added a few things, like being able to spin or do a cross-over while on offense; I didn't quite figure out the best way to utilize these, but I assume they are to dodge the defender's swiping arms or shoves. Also, you can do allez-oop dunks, which is pretty sweet. My friend and I were laughing a lot at what the announcer had to say, and at the over-the-top dunks. There's also a menu somewhere that tells you how to unlock all (or most of?) the retro NBA characters such as Larry Bird and Magic Johnson. It didn't list any other hidden characters, like (I don't know how to black out spoilers... but, politicians and actors, etc.) so I'm not sure how that works out, but I liked having that list. The unlocks are things like "make 10 blocks in one game" or "beat all 30 NBA teams with a team from the Eastern Conference".

Negative things: I played with the classic controller... clearly, the developer assumed few people would want to play with the classic controller and didn't put much effort into making it feel like the right choice. The controls are NOT customizable, which would have been nice. (For some reason, the L trigger does turbo and the R trigger does... nothing?) The classic controller controls work fine once you know what does what, but here's what really makes me mad: Menu controls. When you select a team/teammates, it says "PRESS A TO SELECT" or something like that. Except, A on the classic controller cancels and B on the classic controller selects. Once again, not a problem once you know... but shouldn't they have realized that's VERY non-intuitive. Also, the loading screens will say things like "Press C to [perform function]" and the classic controller has no C button. Not a very helpful tip...

There's a tutorial mode that teaches how to play with a nunchuck/wiimote (which unlocks something, perhaps Big Head Mode). Once my thumb heals up more, I'm going to try it out and see how the "motion controls" work. Despite my complaints, I'm betting that classic controls will remain the best option.

So NBA Jam for the PS3 and 360 will be sold on a retail disc and be shipping on Nov. 17th. It will cost $49.99.

Apparently, a "free, downloadable update will be released for both versions in December that adds additional modes and features, including Backboard Smash, Domination Free-for-All, Elimination, 21, Online Progression, and Jam Party." - IGN

There is also this lovely little quote from Trey Smith: "We have listened to our NBA JAM fans and appreciate their desire to play this game online, so we are going to deliver the online feature set they expect and deserve".

That leaves me wondering which NBA JAM fans they are listening to? The ones who bought the offline Wii version, which should have had online features?

That leaves me wondering which NBA JAM fans they are listening to? The ones who were expecting a FULL FEATURED Wii Exclusive, or the PS360 fans that originally weren't expecting anything, than were kinda upset for having to buy NBA Elite 11 to get the download code, but now get the FULL FEATURED HD release including online play for the same price as Wii owners?

fixed.

So basically now there isn't any thing the Wii version has that the others won't? At least before Wii owners could point to these exclusive modes. If the game bombs (at least the Wii version), I will blame EA Sports for it. The game was originally a Wii-exclusive until they forced EA Canada to suddenly make Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions.

I've always defended Trey Smith's team at EA Canada when it came to NBA Jam. They were just super passionate about the project itself and less concerned over what console it was on and the development team is at the mercy of EA. While undeniably crummy (feel free to use a stronger word here), it makes sense to release a PS3/360 version even at the expense of the Wii. I'm not saying it was right or fair; however, it does make sense from a business perspective. Using Jam as a trojan horse for Elite was shortsighted at best. The game was a buggy mess. Sure, they would probably sell tons on Jam alone, but a bad game is a bad game and you can bet those who actually popped the Elite disc in to play the game would think twice and three times before even thinking about getting Elite '12. Releasing NBA Jam offsets the loss of Elite/Live. EA sure does look mighty evil right now, more so than usual.

I can't help but think that since NBA Jam was a retro revival and they didn't want to spend too much on it, they made it a Wii Exclusive.
Gave it a decent budget and a team that wanted to do it, set it on cruise control and just let them drive.

Once they checked back in and seen that the game was actually good, there was a lot of buzz around it and the HD fanboys were trying to figure out the best way to get their hands on it, they decided to pull resources to get an HD version up and running ASAP. Of course those resources were pulled during the beginning of the online portion of the Wii game which left the Wii team with no networking expertise as the entire dev staff was now tripping over themselves to get the HD version ready in time for the PS360 release.

I have no idea if that's how things went down, but it just feels like that may be what happened here, or something really similar to that.

I mean it did go from a HD downloadable bare basics title to a full featured online HD retail release in a matter of months. It's quite obvious that the Wii version had to of suffered at the benefit of the speedy HD version.

And with that, EA has gone bottom barrel when it comes to it's popularity with Nintendo fans.

Though I would lawl if Mario Sports Mix outsold this game.

That's silly. If there was no PS3/360 version and the Wii version had online multiplayer like we all wanted, Mario Sports Mix would still outsell NBA Jam. It's a casual sports game with Mario characters on the Wii. That's the gaming industry equivalent to finding a leprechaun's pot of gold with your best friend's hot sister double fisting beer sitting on top and your best friend not caring that you're oogling his sister and will probably bang her later... on the pot of gold which is also yours.

Mario Sports Mix also has the luxury of being published by Nintendo, and Nintendo is a name consumers trust to deliver quality games.

Me neither, but I'm looking at a more broader range. Hell, never had interest in NBA JAM to begin with, but this sorta **** EA is pulling is kind of hilarious... in a "WHY DOESN'T THIS SURPRISE ME?" sort of way.

And people wonder why third party games don't sell on Wii. HMM...

Yeah, I never really thought much of EA to begin with.  This whole thing has felt like some sort of intentional satire of Wii third party support.  If someone made up such a fictional story last year we would all felt that it was too over-the-top to be believable.

Yet what is funny (or depressing, depending on my mood) is that it never seemed unbelievable as it happened.  It's like I am so conditioned to third parties treating the Wii like crap that I almost expected it in a weird way.  It started off so promising so it HAD to **** up somehow, right?  I've had a real defeatist attitude towards the Wii for a while now anyway.  There's got to be a catch.  It has to all fall apart somehow, right?  So when it started to derail it wasn't surprising.  And then we all started getting pessimistic and coming up with (perhaps jokingly) predictions of where it would go and they all came true!  The only thing missing here was the Wii version being outright cancelled or being turned into some spin-off.  That would have been the cherry on top.  We still got a more-or-less functional version of NBA Jam that is just missing online play.  But maybe that's worse?  Like we know it COULD have been fine.

If one were to ever make the argument that the Wii is cursed this would be a good example.

Capcom got a lot of flack because they announced that like 2 weeks before the GCN release. They could at least have waited until a few weeks after the GCN version released before announcing the PS2 port.

For those interested, EA Sports officially canceled NBA Elite 11 and said that EA Tiburon will be taking over the franchise (after the shake-up at EA Canada): http://www.industrygamers.com/news/nba-elite-11-is-doa/
