New Lufia In The Works For An Unknown Platform
« on: November 12, 2009, 03:31:22 PM »
Square Enix is bringing together the developers of the original Super Nintendo game for a new entry in the series.
 http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/newsArt.cfm?artid=20309

Square Enix is working on Estpolis, a new entry in the Lufia series, according to Famitsu.

The series, which was originally published by Taito, began in 1993 on the Super Nintendo. The last console entry in the series was for the Game Boy Advance in 2003.

Famitsu also reported that the team behind the original game will be working on the new title.

There is no specified platform yet, but more information should be coming out in next week's issue of Famitsu.

UPDATE 11/18/09 - Estpolis: The Land Cursed by the Gods has been announced for the Nintendo DS.

Here's hoping it's even better than Lufia 2 on the SNES, rather than following in the footsteps of the horrid GBA incarnation.

Oh snap! Lufia 1&2 are really great RPGs. Dragona is obsessed with them.

We really need to see Lufias 1 & 2 on the VC, especially 2.  I never cared too much for Lufia 1 when I tried to play it years ago, as I thought the gameplay was better in 2 and Lufia 1 badly spoils the very touching ending to Lufia 2.

My guess would be the DS, given the type of game it is. Another possibility would be WiiWare though that doesn't usually see games of this type.

No, please no!  That would probably force me to actually buy a DS again!  >:(  C'mon, let's see a real console sequel on Wii or PS3, especially since the last handheld installment sucked so badly!

Yes, let's see it on an actual console.  I'm super excited about this though.  I'll buy it if it goes to DS.  I'll even buy a psp if it goes on the psp.  I just want it.

If the game is going to be 2D then I doubt it would be on Wii. Would this game work in 3D? I haven't played them so I don't know.

I've played both of the SNES Lufias and would love to play a new one on Wii. DS...maybe. I would rather have a new Wii RPG. Maybe if Crystal Chronicles sells well it will come to Wii? And maybe either way the SNES games will release to all three D/L services around the new game's launch.

I want this one on Wii (or multiplatform with the PS3 as well) just so Nintendo doesn't have an excuse to get all pissy and forbid the two Lufia games from reaching the Virtual Console (ala what happened with Bionic Commando Rearmed).

Wait, it was confirmed that that was why Bionic Commando couldn't come to the VC? I thought that part of Nintendo died a generation ago. I guess I was silly to think that.

If you believe Jeremy Parish from 1up.com, who claimed he overheard that being confirmed, then yes it was true and Nintendo can still be that petty.  I had nearly given up on the idea of Square-Enix ever putting these lesser-known (and largely forgotten) RPGs on the Virtual Console, so I don't want Nintendo to have any excuses to forbid it if Square-Enix decides to release the 2 Lufia games on it.

Ignoring WiiWare and Wii for both BC games would make me pretty petty if you think about it.

I believe they made it quite clear when Rearmed was in development that due to the Wii's storage limitations (remember when that was more of an issue since Nintendo hadn't done the SD card update?) they couldn't put it on the system.  As for the console BC, it was crap anyway so who cares?  Nintendo had an opportunity to make easy money, and they threw it away.

Not true,  I am playing thru it now and am very much enjoying it.  Shooting mechanics aren't worth much but the arm swinging is just fun.  There are flaws (the replay system sucks for one) but it is not crap by any means.   Just because it is hard does not make it crap.

I get OT way too easily. :)
