Lindy must be ecstatic.

I really couldn't care less.  A sales spike in any one month is meaningless in the big picture.  The PS3 will be back down to 150K next month, the Wii will keep selling four times that, nothing to see here.

And Lindy Luthor will be crying in the corner with a copies of the 1st and 2nd best games of all time, Uncharted 2 and 1, repeating the phrase

I do think this is a lot different from the 360 price drop.  The 360 was always the cheaper alternative to the PS3.

Also, to many, the PS3 was prohibitively expensive before.  I recognize I'm making a blanket statement here, but the xbox went from being an affordable game console to being a cheaper game console to most people.  The PS3 went from being "I can't get it regardless of if I want it or not" to "Oh wow, I can afford one now!"

In my opinion the only thing that 360 has going for it over the PS3 right now is it's online integration.  Having only one benefit over your competition should not be a comfortable place.

PS3 is coming into the thick of its software lineup too.  Aside from Uncharted 2 and Modern Warfare 2, you have upcoming titles (that it should have launched with) like God of War III, Gran Turismo 5, and Final Fantasy XIII.  Plenty of big mainstream titles coming up for the Sony faithful, as well as more niche stuff like Heavy Rain, Last Guardian, and MAG.  Final Fantasy XIV and DC Universe Online are also lurking out there for the MMORPG crowd.  The 360's upcoming lineup isn't nearly as interesting or varied.

NPD doesn't separate DS Lite and DSi sales.  I doubt they'll split PSP and PSP Go sales, either.

If Sony wants you to know they'll put out a press release (just like Nintendo does).

Wait six months.  Its price will drop like a stone, and Amazon will start discounting downloadable PSP games.

I don't know if I'd even give it that now, given that the PS3's online play is free and Sony's been working on getting the friends list more user-friendly.  Where the 360 has the advantage right now is in must-play games that have online play.  Sony's still working on that with the PS3, starting with LittleBigPlanet and Uncharted 2 from the looks of it.

I think this is a very real possibility. I just don't see the PSP Go as being successful, I mean who in their right mind would buy it when you can get a PSP for a much cheaper price with a wider selection of CHEAP games.

Many people think that the PSPgo is a real world market test for Sony's Digital Download service and it is priced to not take a loss like the other hardware that is being used to push software sales.

Many also believe the rumor that the PSP2 is in the works and they(Sony) wants to make sure that the full PS1/PS2, PSN & PSP libraries are up and ready to go on day 1 of the the PSP2 release.

Sony themselves didn't even have high sales expectations for the PSPgo, so that tends to put a little bit of weight behind the 1st theory, which adds a little meat to second theory too.

The PSPGo reminds me of the GameBoy Camera and Pokemon Wireless adapter.  Experimental techs tossed out there just to see what kind of traction they'd get, for future reference.

But with Go as a platform puts it at a whole other magnitude of "what the hell are you trying?" compared to those two little peripherals.

The PSP Go is like a product with zero pros.  It comes across as inferior to the normal PSP in almost every way.  How is download-only a pro?  See all those PSP games on store shelves?  This plays NONE of them!  And you pay MORE MONEY for this restriction!  WOW!

The PS3 price drop was almost like a second launch.  Sony just plain priced that thing way too high.  Most pricecuts are about getting fencesitters to go "oh why not".  That's who the Wii price cut is for.  But with the PS3 there were people that wanted a PS3 and planned to get one once the price came down.  These aren't fencesitters and these aren't impulse buys.  These are people that would have bought a PS3 a while ago if the price wasn't so high.

The Wii is untouchable but Sony probably has a real chance of being number two now.  The playing field is now level.  The Xbox 360 with its RROD is probably in big trouble.

I don't think 360 is in any trouble, worldwide it still has double the sales of PS3. Natal could be a big boost for MS too.

Double?  What?  When did that happen?  I thought it was closer to even, with the PS3 trailing by a few million units... which, when combined with the people who have bought replacement 360's (and, personally, I feel there are a *lot* of them), it seems they're probably pretty close.
Just some random guy on the internet who has a different opinion of games than you.

My bad it is double in the U.S. They are separated by about 7 million worldwide.

Go check some numbers
http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=18481.msg557856#msg557856

X360 is almost double the PS3 in the US, the PS3 has a 2.5mill lead in JPN and last I checked, 360 was still ahead(or tied) of PS3 everywhere else in the world. 360 will be fine and it's already been seen that PS3slim #'s have already tapered off. The PS3 need to outsell the 360 by significant numbers for an extended amount of time(definitely longer than 1 month) before anyone even needs to think 360 is in trouble of losing it's second place title.

Considering I've met people who have bought 3 or 4 Xbox 360s due to the RROD I think Microsoft's sales figures are somewhat artificial.  Still they might win in sales totals but Sony can challenge them in userbase, which will have more of an effect on game sales.

Natal will probably do more damage to the Wii as it'll likely make motion controller look that much more gimmicky and that much more irresponsive and thus damage the reputation of the concept as a whole (and thus hurt the reputation of any console associated with motion control ie: Wii).  I have ZERO faith in Natal or Sony's flashlight dildo.  Nintendo is literally the only Wii developer who has any slight idea of how to make motion control not suck and they're the most talented dev in the world.  So now Sony and MS are suddenly going to figure it out?

If Natal fails in front of the nation, Grand-mama won't care -- she's already got "Wii Fit Resort" as I've overheard when walking thru Walmart one day.  That's not hurting Wii, it's reinforcing Wii.

Natal won't hurt any competitors unless it actually catches on.

Funny how people pick and choose what they believe if I recall Sony was king when it came to inflating sales numbers with PS2. But now it somehow matters with MS?
