Why gamecube 2???

Ok, just wondering why everyone and their dog is refering to the next gen Nintendo system as gamecube 2. Is it just because its easier than saying, "nintendo's next system".... I mean really nintendo has never recycled a system name yet.  Did you ever hear, "i wonder what N64-2 will be like!?!?" or "SNES-2 is gonna rock dudes!" I thought not. I guess im just a little confuzed. I guess it's just easier to say gamecube 2....... but it still bugs me.

Well, for the time being, it doesn't bother me too much.  Before GameCube came out, we referred to it as "Dolphin".  Since we have not been provided with even a codename for the next system, we might as well call it that.  Hey, we're lazy people...

Anyone else have a problem with system names such as Playstation 2 or X-Box 2.  It just seems boring and less revolutionary.

GameBoy... GameBoy Color... Game Boy Advance.

For lack of even a project name, GameCube 2 is as good as anything else.

If they named it Super_Handheld-CoolThing, no one would know it was a Nintendo Gameboy

My point is that they could at least call it Super Xbox

I think "NEXUS" wil be the best name for the cube...=) imagen hearing in the TV

I refer to it as Nintendo's next console, as I don't think that GameCube 2 is an appropriate name for it.  When we get a project name, I will start using that.

well if the next console by nintendo is gamcube advance or gamecube 2, it would have to be in the shape of a cube(which the current model does only when the gba player is added on). i think it would be cool if it was something else though....but realistically, i think it would be good for nintendo to stick with its smaller model. everyone knows the cube is small....i think they should keep the next model small as well.

For all of you who think you soooooo smart by pointing out that Game Boy is Game Boy every time... thank you i totally forgot.. guess i was thinking of nintend CONSOLES... sorry. i'll never make THAT mistake agian.

I doubt it will be the "gamecube 2"

its just... stupid.

I hate the name "Playstation 2" almost as much as I hate the PS2 controller.

anyway, Its just speculation, I prefer'd the name "Nintendo Ultra 64" when it was first called that, why they ended up dropping the "Ultra" title is still beyond me.

anyway, till we know a code-name, i guess "GC2" will have to do...

yeah i never did like the ultra 64 thing, sounded... dodgy =\
but it did make me laugh when i went to an arcade about 2-3 years into n64's life i saw a Cruisin' USA machine that mentioned the Ultra64 ehehe

I figure that the next gen Nintendo system will be out in, say, in 2007 or 2008, so we won't even hear of a project name for another two years or so.

With that, you can call the next-gen Nintendo system anything you want -- I'm calling it "the next-gen Nintendo system"

Don't think so Kenny, but if you have a link that says so, I'm interested.

So far, each Nintendo console has launched 5-6 years after its predecessor. The NES launched in 1985, followed by the SNES in 1991, followed by the N64 in 1996, followed by the GCN in 2001. There's no way Nintendo would launch in '05, but '06 and '07 are good candidates.

Ah, heh and I see your sig has a quote from the GCN Europe article. Well then, I stand corrected. If GCN is launching in 2005, that's really premature for the Big N, but I guess next time they want to be on top
