What a game.  That has to be one of the top 5 games that I've played in the last several years.  My top 5 right now have to be Zelda: WW, Morrowind, Halo, Eternal Darkness, and Steel Battalion.

I finished it on the "red" setting.  Now I'm playing again on the "blue" setting.  Definitely worth the $19 I paid.

I think one thing that made it so great was the fact that the story was so cohesive, and intriguing.  Silicon Knights is definitely a great developer.

Some side notes:

1) The first bath scene scared the crap out of me.  Definitely surprised me.

2) One of the "insanity effects" really caught me off guard.  The screen flashed to the save/load screen and flashed "now deleting all save games".  The progress bar started, and I was like...."WTF???".  Then I remembered..."Oh yeah...the insanity effects"...very cool.

did anyone else get the insanity effect with the volume? that was crazy. the volume meter came on my tv and just went down to zero then back up, and it was actually the same volume display that my tv uses. i didnt know what was goin on, i thought i was sittin on the remote or somethin lol

Yeah, I also picked up the game a few weeks ago.   This game is great!  Definately one of my faves.  I should be able to beat it my 2nd time through tomorrow...I just feel a need to get the big ending!

I just got the third ending about 5 minutes ago.....

Frankly I am kind of dissappointed.  It wasn't all that bad, I was just hoping for something more after finishing the game three times.  It didn't really tell me anything more than I had already surmised.

i really need to get around to finishing this (haven't completed even a path).  this game isn't holding my interest.  the story is nice, but nothing special.  and the gameplay gets boring.

I loved the game the first time thru it. but I still haven't got more than half way done with the second one. I'll have to do that sometime, I just lost interest.  It is a great game IMO.

Repeating Edward and Alex's chapters get VERY repetitive when you have to do them each 3 times.  I can do them in about half an hour each now, but it's still quite boring, as the chapters are very alike.

My first time through the game was very quick though, and I beat the game within two days, and I had to work 8 hours for both of those days.

My second time took a week.

Eternal Darkness is one of my favorite experiences on the Gamecube.   I really didn't enjoy at first.  It took me a while for the story to really grab on to me.   I am all for lots of story telling and FMVs if it done that well.   So many games have really bad voices and storytelling that I find myself trying to hit the A button and skip them.

About the only thing I wish this game had was more varied monsters.

BS.

Grey Ninja---I completely sympathize with that.  Edward and Alex's chapters are the worst part of the game....and the LONGEST!

I found this game to be one of the best ever, but, not quite worth 3playthroughs.
I thought the actual gameplay or action was too boring/repetitive to play through it again, and the story, while awesome, still can only be new once.

I hope if a sequel ever sees the ligh then it should have more motivating fighting, faster, cooler, better looking.
Thats why games like Metroid or Zelda are still fun on the second play through, the action is still there.

I thought you had to beat it four tiems with the yellow magic or something?

Maybe I am just crazy...
When I was a kid we didnt have fancy Nintendo videogames with high-resolution 3-D graphics! We had the Atari 2600! With games like "Space Invaders" and "Asteroids" and the graphics sucked ass! Your guy was a little square! You had to use your imagination! And there were no multiple levels or screens

Glad to here that you liked it.  Its a shame though, the game only sold about 500k worldwide before the game went to $20.  I would assume its sold quite a bit at that price.  I love the game, bought it the day it was released.  In my top 5 favorite games on Cube, and in the top 20 for all time.  Great game, no one should pass this game up, especially at the price tag its at right now.

Man, ask Mario, Infernal Monkey and Joeyjojo how boring it was to watch me do Alex's stage. We were sitting there, eyes almost shutting from lack of sleep.
When I finaly got to Pious for the final time, i died like 2 times and we were all like "Oh my god!". thats when I just gave up on it.
I haven't touched it till this day.
I will on the weekend. Thats when I have a week off uni.

can someone please tell me what the special ending consists of once you beat the game three times?

i'd like to play through three times, but between working 40 hours a week, and trying to maintain a social life i just don't seem to have the time.  hell, i'm already behind in my games by quite a bit.  i still need to get around to beating timesplitters and i haven't even picked up splinter cell or ikaruga yet.  so sad....
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

You know why this game is great, because one year after the release of it so many people still talk about it despite its lackluster sales. Theres more talk about it than even Metroid. And I havent heard anything about games like Starfox for ages. Guess Quality lasts in minds

*********  3RD ENDING SPOILERS *************

The third ending adds a small fmv after the last bit in the game, but before the credits.  It shows Mantarok, and has the narrator talking about Mantarok.  The other 3 ancients are dead, as they were killed in different planes of existence.  Only Mantarok remains, and he was the instigator of it all.  He had used the Roivas family to take revenge on the other ancients, and pitted them against one another.  Now that only he remains, he sits quietly in his tomb, plotting....

I am assuming that a sequel one day would consist of Matarok's return to the world.

A very good game, and one of my favorites on the Cube. I love the way the stories were interwoven, the way each character's tale had a unique feel to it, the monster/color system, and of course the insanity effects. Bonus points for being about the only 3rd person game ever to not get the "camera stinks" criticism.

The flaw, of course, was Edward and Alex's missions. While it was an interesting idea, it didn't work well enough to flip those switches twice in a game - and even worse if you played it through 3 times. The end of the game should be the most exciting and action packed - and that just wasn't the case. It doesn't help that you are not the one who gets to kill off the giant beast in the end.

Oh well.

This is definately a game worthy of a sequel. The flaws were not unusual for a "first in a series" game, and a second game hopefully will iron out those rough spots.

Hey, how is the control on ED?  is it like Resident Evil where you have to pretend you're the actual person and control them that way?

It's like a Zelda/Resident Evil hybrid.  It feels very natural, and control problems don't happen very often.  Movement is controlled much like Zelda and Mario, but the combat controls take a cue from Resident Evil.  You press R to target an enemy, and you can select different body parts to attack.
