Anyone played Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2?
« on: September 16, 2009, 12:45:21 PM »
Hey all --

I haven't been able to find one single review of the Wii version of this game anywhere.

My son and I love us some Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction, so I'm tempted to pick this up to expand our smashing options. I've so far passed on the first MUA since it looks like a typical Wii wagglefest... and having played a ton of Swordplay Showdown, waggling is less satisfying than ever. Is this one any different? Bueller?

I'm sure MUA2 will be more like MUA1 than HUD

From what I read the motion controls from the first has largly been not in use in this game. The motion controls are for fusion attacks.

Melee attacks are with the A and B buttons.
Maxi is dead. I killed him and took his posts and changed genders.

I would recommend youtube.   I played the first, and if I recall correctly, watching a video of the game could adequately and accurately sum up how the game plays.  Attacks originally were done with different waggle motions and buttons, but it never grew too complicated.

If the sequel is anything close to the original in control, then you should definitely look for a youtube video, and you'd be able to see how things are from there.

As far as the first went, it's major redeeming quality was multi-player.  Aside from that, it's a dungeon crawler with repeat enemies, but unique bosses.  You walk from area to area on the map, clear the rooms of enemies, and finally advance to a midboss or a boss.

I'm not sure how unique characters are this time, but previously, it seemed like attacks between characters had several similarities shared among them.

Anyways, good luck! And if you get it, let us know what you think!

Also, GameFAQs.com has a message board for every game, and while you might not be familiar with the common ideas and characteristics of the posters, they still might reveal some about what's different between versions.

I found the first very boring, and the Dungeon Crawler aspect didn't fit the Marvel Universe well.  Multiplayer was fun but flawed as well.  It just didn't have what it needed to be a great game.

You'd have to skip M:UA.  It's a very long game, stages go on for an hour or two, and they're all very similar.  The story was nothing groundbreaking in the world of Marvel Comics, I believe.

If they fix the problems in the second one go for it...but that last one was annoying and the levels were tedious, boring and frustrating...running back and forth all the time...no strategy at all.

Thanks all -- a couple of reviews finally popped up on Metacritic and... ouch. That, and some game play videos that made it to YouTube don't look too promising.

I might pick this up when the price drops. Sigh.

Yeah, they really haven't fix any of the main issues with the series (starting back with X-men)--in fact this sequel is in alot of ways took the wrong direction.  You can clearly tell the developers went with a more "casual" approach to the game considering there's only 4 "powers"  for each character--yeah there's plenty of them but what's the point of an RPG when you really can't customize them all that much?  Alot of the auto-leveling pisses me off too--you have to keep turning it off--for some reason it doesn't stay off.

Of course you can aleast retract your points anyhow and reuse them later which is kinda nice but I don't like it.

MUA2..  Havin not played the first one, I decided to give this one a go.  It reminds me of the old xmen 6 player arcade game.  Its a fun co-op game that lends itself to mindless bashing.  I actually thought to myself "why do the evil do'ers even higher normal people?" seeing a gang of mutants gang up on mere mortals was.... overpowering.    poor guys..

Its fun, but there are a couple of things you may want to change with the customized controls.

Motions =  Fusion attacks
Motions =  there was one other.

but the placement of the jump button is off.  its the C on the chuck..  horrible place for it.

Its a fun game, but I dont see a challenge in it.  This seems like an arcade presentation, where my biggest gripe was that I started a single player no problem..   started a multi campainge and It had to wipe out my single player to allow multi.... lame.

So far it feels like a solid 6.5 or 7, if you dont mind STIFF animation on the main characters, I am sure you will have a fun romp!

My brother says the PS3 version constantly freezes up and dies on 4-player.  The game chugs and weezes at 2-player.
