Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver Sell 1.5 Million in Two Days
« on: September 14, 2009, 06:22:40 PM »
The Pokemon phenomenon manages to capture the heart and soul of millions once again.
 http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/newsArt.cfm?artid=19945

According to Famitsu.com, Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver have sold 1.5 million copies in Japan in after just two days of release.

The titles are remakes of Pokemon Gold and Silver, the second game in the series released on the Game Boy Color back in 2000. The DS version features updated graphics similar to Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, and features new apps such as the pedometer.

Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver are scheduled for a spring 2010 release in North America.

It's actually HeartGold and SoulSilver (both as 1 word in CamelCase, just like FireRed and LeafGreen were).

My bad. The original source spelled the name that way.

No problem, this is a common mistake I see people use. The official Pokemon site shows them as CamelCase: http://www.pokemon.com/#videogames_43

From what I've read, the title seems to be a great and complete remake that actually "moves forward" a lot of the storylines in the Pokemon universe.  I'd almost venture a guess that following this game, the traditional gym and Pokemon League set-up will be altered a little bit, with a lot more references to past games and themes.

That might be hoping for a little too much from an already-winning Pokemon formula, though.  And... those GameCube games weren't entirely all that fun, so I'm not even certain that's what I'd want.

From what I read the HeartGold/SoulSilver games are as robust as any pokemon games I have seen. Platinum included which I am playing through.

It has everything a Pokemon fan could want.

I'm not sure which version I am going to get yet.

Well, if the versions are similar to the originals, Gold allows you to get Ho-oh sooner, and Ho-oh > Lugia.

Mop_it_up, I just realized your avatar is highly offensive.  Probably.

Anyways, I'll be picking up SoulSilver when the game gets localized.  Once again, Nintendo fails to translate a text-heavy game in a reasonable manner, a little disappointing, since Nintendo often says they try to translate things in-development for similar release dates.  They've lost some ground when it comes to DS RPGs, I'd say.

They want to keep the video games in relative lock-step with th TCG and TV show for promontional reasons. Not sure which is the limiting factor of the three.

This is the most predictable news story of the year.

But HeartGold and SoulSilver are two different games.... they shouldn't be counted together.

Well, if the versions are similar to the originals, Gold allows you to get Ho-oh sooner, and Ho-oh > Lugia.

so there is barely a difference between the two? well then never mind.

And how is that?

That's one reason why it is predictable.

There are more differences than that, Mop was just pointing out the most obvious difference. There are also Pokemon exclusive to each version (at least if the re-makes are similar to every other main Pokemon game).

There's still barely a difference between the two.  The reality is, there will probably be 20-30 Pokemon unique to the individual titles, and, along with that, there'll be differences between encounter rates of some species.

Other than that, the main difference is the title screen, default character names, and where/when you encounter the legendary Pokemon available in both versions.

With the existence of Wifi trading, as well as the GTS, a system that lets you put out a Pokemon on the net for a specific trade, it's wholly and completely unnecessary to buy both versions to collect every single Pokemon.

Yeah, let's go with Activision's Starcraft 2 release-pattern model.

Have they incorporated random wifi battles yet? I played a bit of diamond and I believe there was only wifi battles with friends and locally over multi cart. It just blows my mind if that isn't in yet, then again...

They're never treated Pokémon games as a high priority for localization, all of them were released several months after the Japanese dates.

They reserved random wifi battles for their Pokemon Battle Revolution, or whatever that Wii game was called.

I am after Heartgold myself, I have always been on the "Red" Side of the games and I might as well continue that tradition.  Of course, if we follow patterns there with be a new crystal soon which mean inbetween we may actually see an updated Wii game in some form to compliment them.  The biggest issue with Platinum and Pokemon battle revolution is that the new forms are not supported (same with Ranch and platinum) so they get turned back into their original forms during battles.

I would say, next to the original Red, Gold was by far my favorite.  It was the only game in the series that actually offered new pokemon that were interesting.    Although, pearl did a good job too.
