Namco and Sega MERGER!
« on: April 17, 2003, 04:08:53 PM »
According to Namco's official Japanese website, the merger between Sega and Namco is completely official. The proposed merger would have the two companies fully absorbed into one another by 2004.

Would be awesome, awesome news if that happend... but I don't really see any indication of it, so I don't see a reason to get peoples' hopes up.

On a side note, it sounds like the company will just be called Sega... makes sense as they were the more recongized company out of the two.

Actually, it does indeed say that the rumors of the two companies' merging is true.  So start the celebrating, my friends.  Maybe Sega won't have to beg for money from M$ anymore...

I was talking about Nintendo buying up both of the companies once they merged, something "Mario" mentioned with no indication of it happening.

Thats so convenient for Nintendo.
Now they can all meet up up one place to discuss stuff.
Nintendo is smart for making deals with Namco and Sega, they have merged now!

This should be good for Sega and Namco. Unlike the Sammy deal, Sega and Namco shouldn't have an issue with coporate cultures. They have collaborated before on a limited basis and their businesses are quite similar to one another.

With arcades evaporating at a steady rate, it makes sense for the two largest arcade game developers to band together. I can't wait too see the kind of games that will come of this.

I wonder if there is a connection between Nintendo's mysterious new "Tokyo" dev house and the Namco/Sega announcement...

Much like Zelda games, you have to get all three peices of the Triforce. Sega/Namco now have two. Nintendo has the third. It would be ironic if Sega/Namco merged again with Nintendo. Then Nintendo would have the complete triforce and could fight Ganon (Sony?).

During the Megaton speculation last year many where speculating that Namco, Sega, Capcom, Konami where merging or at least there would be a Dream Team created from handful of members of each development house.

Nintendo has announced they have created a new Internal Development house based in Tokyo and not based in its hometown, to nurture or scout for up and coming talent.

However what if there really was some big announcements, Megaton announcments to come out of all this as certain SegaNamco members left to join the new Internal House Nintendo has suspiciously got up and running.

The suspense is killing me.

E3 is going to show Too Human the game and Factor 5 support and Konami surprise support right?
Will we finally see what Zoonami has been brewing for us?

Muahahahahaha.

Yeah, the rumors are true, but the merger can't possibly happen until tons of hurdles are crossed including a vote by both companies' shareholders.  You remember all the SquareEnix stuff last year, same stuff would apply here.

It will be interesting to see what happens in the long run.  I'm not as surprised as I was about SquareEnix though.  I guess Enix needed the support, but I never thought Square was really financially weak (though they really shot themselves in the foot with that movie).  While Enix seemed to strike gold with just DQ, Square tended to create many, many excellent titles that sold very well.

WEll, I think on their own Square would've folded- that's one time I think we can be happy they have a great relationship with Sony. I didn't think Enix was in any economic trouble, though, nor Namco now (shows how much I know about Japanese economics). This is an extremely interesting merger, though- I hope they'll allow cross overs, unlike Squenix.

Aside from the business side of this, just imagine some of the amazing 3rd party products this company could produce.  Sega and Namco have just done so much more for games in the past years than Square and Enix.  Just imagine the games.

All fighting fans, you can finally say hello to that Tekken/Virtual Fighter crossover.  This announcement could just be the one that revitalizes the arcade industry and raises the bar for 3rd parties worldwide.  Look to the future...it's just amazing.
What's that smell?
