Question about WW graphics
« on: April 17, 2003, 10:45:38 AM »
OK, I recently bought WW...I haven't actually played, since my daughter had ACL reconstruction last week, she has been hogging the cube. Anyway, I've watched briefly over her shoulder, and am really wondering about the graphics. It almost looks as if the game takes place in some bad 70's disco. The flashing/color switching in certain situations is unbearable for me. (my kids seem to think its just the way the game is and don't seem to have a problem with it). There is one part, where Link is in a jail (low light) and the table is constantly flashing. Also, Links face and hat alternate shades constantly, not just when moving, like a flashing patchwork. I first thought this was the 'cell shading' feature, but the more I look at it, the more I think there is a problem, but not sure if with the game or the cube. I popped in Simpsons Road Rage (the one I play when I get time) and the graphics are smooth and clean.

I think it could be the cube, cause the disk is clean, and I haven't found anyone objecting to the graphics, at least anything resembling the flashing I'm seeing. Of course, this is aside from anything about the "look" of the game that seems to be a love/hate relationship. Other games appear normally, visually.

Any ideas, or comments? or am I being too picky?

Sounds like light flashing on the objects in-game.  WW has very nice lighting effects and stuff like torches will flicker light around.

If it's not that, then it sounds like either your TV or your Cube is having a problem.

Yup, it's probably just the swinging lanterns that seem to be everywhere in the game.

OK, I have taken a shot of the screen, if someone could look at it and confirm this is what it SHOULD look like, it would ease my mind!

400 kb clip of WW

Thanks!

OK, one of my sons friends has a gamecube and we tried it there. Looks great. Called Nintendo, and it will be fixed under warranty. Thanks for everyone who tried to use that link!
