Wave Race Wii ...
« on: July 18, 2009, 12:03:27 AM »
With Wii Sports Resort having a mode that is very similar to Wave Race, do you actually want Nintendo to make a version of that franchise for the Wii ??

My vision for Wave Race Wii:

8 playeer online mode with wiispeak , 2 player split-screen including competing vs online ,  Mii integration, dozens of levels, and uses forecast channel for weather conditions. Just for casual gamers it will have 'casual gamer' difficulty setting right off the bat or ' hardcore gamer' difficulty to pick from, ability to use gamecube, or classic controller, or Wii motion plus wii sports resort controls.

I totally buy that.

I woudn't like to see a motion plus required wave race, but I'm afraid that franchise may be done unless they do a new play control one.

I would buy it even if it used the GameCube/N64 controls, with no Wii-esque options. WaveRace 64 was my favorite N64 game, period. I think the GameCube game (even though it's really just a port) is easily in the top five for that system as well.

I was never really a fan of Wave Race, I just found it to be boring. It seems to me like both games existed to showcase the graphics of their respective systems, and so that would be kind of pointless for Wii.

I loved the Nintendo 64 game.  The Gamecube game was too difficult and really took the fun out of the game.  I think the next Wave Race should have a good mix of traditional races, but then some more abstract races.  Like I would love a race down a river with no laps.

Too difficult? That's why you start on easy and work your way up. Challenging, or even balanced, would be a better word.

Why? The Wii is stronger than the GC. Plus we need another showcase title like Galaxy, Prime Conduit to show people what the system is capable of.

I wouldn't want it to have GC/CC controls. It needs to be with the Wiimote/Nunchuck and/or M+. If it can't be done with those they might as well not make one.

But it's an arcade style jetski racing/stunt game? Save WM+ for simulations. I guess it works for ExciteTruck/Bots, so maybe it could work for WaveRace too, but they'd have to be very exaggerated controls, which would almost make it "waggle for the sake of being waggle".

I'm not saying it has to use the M+ exclusively or even at all. They could have a Wiimote only mode and an M+ required more. I just don't think it should have a GC/CC setup. That path has already been done. I'd want it for the motion controls. If I want GC/CC controls I'll play Wave Race 64 or pick up the GC one for cheap.

How could you even ask such a question. It's like asking if more cowbell is apropos.

But the motion controls need to correspond, 1:1 to the rider's legs.

I think the next Wave Race would do well by adding other water vehicles. I would really like to race a jet ski against a power boat.

And they could it Wave Race: Aqua Thunder.

Loved the 64 version the most.   A new version would need online races to catch me in the net..

It would be cool if they could make something where there is not only no option to use regular controls but I don't even WANT the option.  Nintendo has, well, largely failed at this.  Most of the time I find the motion controls to be this frustrating novelty I have to put up with.  If the option for normal controls is available I always pick it because it is always superior.  When the option isn't there I think "dammit, I wish it had this option."  No good.  I didn't think "boy I wish I could use the d-pad" when I played N64 games.  It's got to feel essential.  When tackling any of their franchises that don't have that "you MUST make one" level of demand like Mario and Zelda have, they should strive for this and if in the planning stages it's clear they can't achieve it they should move to something else.

If they do make a new Wave Race though I would like all new courses this time.  The Cube one was the first one I played so I actually don't know about this until it was pointed out to me.  I would be quite turned off if that trend continued.

How many games do you have for the Wii again. You are severly limiting yourself with the games that you have.

Preemptively bashing a nonexistent game's controls, levels, and essesntialness saves time for bashing other unplayed games later on.

I didn't think "boy I wish I could use the d-pad" when I played N64 games.
I actually thought that about some of them. Yoshi's Story comes to mind. An analogue stick isn't well-suited for 2D platformers.

The sad thing was that there was an easily accessible D-Pad right on the controller. Nobody used it, though.
