Hey, Broodwars, I heard Opoona was a decent RPG for a younger person. I have a little sister who is 10 going on 11 that I've been thinking about getting that for. She likes the Pokemon RPGs, the Paper Marios and Super Mario RPG. Would you say this is a good RPG for someone like that?
Here's the wierd thing about Opoona: the aesthetics and controls are clearly designed for a younger audience, but parodoxically is probably too convoluted and old-fashioned for them to enjoy. I think she could
play it, and maybe enjoy it. The things is, the environments are very poorly designed (I got lost frequently in the first "town", which is designed like a shopping mall with multiple levels and multiple passages and elevators to get to each level) and the combat requires a fair amount of tedious grinding. I also have a lot of issues with the game's story, which is practically extolling the virtues of being a child slave to an overlord state. The game's crap. Too simple for adults and too badly-designed for kids. You'd be better off getting her to play something like Skies of Arcadia Legends or better yet Chrono Trigger. If you're feeling particularly adventurous, try her out on one of the Baten Kaitos games (particularly Origins) or Tales of Symphonia (the first one, not the Wii sequel). She'll get a lot more enjoyment out of it.
