Because when those items were first introduced they were sold out of ice cream trucks which were called Novelty Trucks, and so people began referring to the treats as "novelties".

Not quite sure what you meant to type but I'll attempt to answer it anyway.

I think Grocery stores started being referred to as Supermarkets when they started carrying more than just groceries.
Now you can buy food, drink, cooking items, utensils, party supplies, magazines & now even do some minor banking all while in the same store.

I was amazed to see a commercial for our local NY supermarket chain where they advertised sellling Nintendo DSL's and Xbox 360s...

i didn't get it until the bump yesterday, I always though, "does he know he misspelled machine?.... well the way he spelled it does kinda pronounce the same.... maybe english isn't a first language...."

I always just thought zap mispelled it to be one of those zany funhouse titles. I skip over ians post instictively now so I never really bothered with this thread.
