True, then again this appears to the common practice now (Capcom is king of it). I'd have no problem if they sold the two separately.

Right, cuz when you combine them individually, you form a pseudo `box set` that collectors love. Having each individual entry is beauty, but one can't disregard the appeal of a super-compact all-in-one edition.

This tears me apart if I try to buy DVDs online, do I get the big collector's box edition or the super slim case edition?

Meh, it'd be nice if it was there but I could live without it. I'd rather they spent their time putting fun into the game, a feature that got cut from the original release due to lack of time and an inexplicable drive to make the game "darker" and more challenging than the original (something that was a bit of a plague going around at the time, as it also hit Prince of Persia around the same time).

Challenge is fun, especially when there's no explicit hints like the classics. The rest of you can stick to hand-holding story games.

As I said in the other thread, I am happy about this. I already planned to get NPC! Metroid Prime and was thinking about NPC! Metroid Prime 2: Echoes. I might trade in my copy of Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, I am just wondering if my save file will work on the Metroid Prime Trilogy version of the game.

If I read the IGN hands-on correctly it can import your old game saves.

It will import my saves from MP1 & MP2? how? can the Wii read GC memory cards while in Wii mode?
If that is the case, then I will go trade these in towards WSR this weekend. I can just finish MP2 later and finish the final boss fight on MP1 sometime after that.

Wii games can access every GC/Wii function; GC games are stuck in pretend-GC mode.

Tales of Symphonia 2 is able to read GC save files from the first game for unlockable bonuses.

Fire Emblem Wii also read files from the GC memory card. Plus the Wii DDR games use Gamecube dance pads. If only Wii games would use the silly bongos I invested in for Donkey Kong games.

Who cares if it can read your GC save files? The point is to play through the games again. I think the hard modes are already unlocked in 1/2 on Wii.

I care. I'm at the final boss on MP1 and I've been playing MP2 alot recently (about 70% done) and don't want to really repeat the light/dark madness all over again. But I would like to finish both games with the superior control scheme. If I can go back and play them on hard after that, then great, but I would mostly be buying it to get MP3 since I've been holding off on it till I atleast got to the end of MP2.

I agree with Metroid Primes 1 and 2, especially since they went to all the trouble to add Achievements to those things. It'd be a real waste to just skip right over that with your GC save files. I do kind of hope that Metroid Prime 3's save file carries over, because my best friend borrowed the game; got bored just before reaching the Pirate Homeworld; and now is playing a bunch of other stuff. I'd rather not rush him through MP3 when he doesn't want to play it just so I can have the game back and the subsequent trade-in credit. I'd rather he could just use his MP3 file on the new version.

This is another announcement I wouldn't have guessed would happen. This is pretty awesome. You can get both Metroid Prime games for cheaper than they would be as NPC games, plus you get the third game. It's great for people who haven't gotten the third game yet, great for people who missed the first two, and even great for those who are itching to replay the first two games with Wii controls. It's win-win for a lot of people really.

I'm kind of curious as to why they didn't wait to announce this until E3. It really makes me wonder if they are going to have any game announcements or just showcase Wii Motion +.

I'd say reading the Metroid Prime 3 save should be an expected feature and if Retro doesn't offer it you have a right to complain. It's the same game on the same system. You should be able to import your save. But with the other two? With the changes they had to make importing your save might not be so easy. I would consider it unrealistic to expect that feature.

It depends on how they have the save file system set up. If they have it designed so all three games save into one massive save file, then I can see it not importing the Metroid Prime 3 data...maybe.

The Legend of Zelda Collector's Edition has separate save files for each game, so it is certainly possible.

I'm not saying that I'm expecting GC save import ability, but I wanna know if its gonna be possible before I go and trade in my games before they lose their trade in value. Its a matter of being able to pick up where I left off or completely start over. I wanna pick up where I left off with new controls (even though I know achievements might make that difficult), but if I have to beat them on GC to not have to start over, I just wanna know that now and not afterwards.

Considering the original Metroid Prime is about $5 in most stores, the trade-in value would be like $1 max. Metroid Prime 2: Echoes isn't much higher. The only one with any real trad-in value is Metroid Prime 3: Corruption.

After I saw what they wanted to give me for 8 GC games the other day @ GS I'm not surprised at the trade-in values.
