Topic: A cable trilemma

I just got a component cable for the Wii, but there is something about it which I wasn't aware of that presents a problem. Unlike the composite cable, the audio cables cannot be pulled apart from the video cables because they mold into one thick cable. Therefore, I cannot plug them into the receiver because they don't come close to reaching that far.

This leaves me with three undesirable options:
1. Move the receiver behind the television, making it out of reach.
2. Plug the audio cables into the television and use those poor quality speakers.
3. Forget the cable and go back to the composite cable.

What should I do? I just don't know...

Buy

1.  Female-Female RCA stereo couplers (<$10)
2.  Male-Male RCA stereo cables (<$10)

Re-route the audio cable using your new extended manhood.  Problem solved, no bothersome rearranging.

Edit:  Wait a minute, why isn't your TV hooked up to the receiver?  Buy cables to join the TV and the receiver, turn off the TV speakers, set your receiver to output all TV audio, and connect all the Wii stuff to the TV.

Buy Male-Male RCA stereo cables (<$10)  (you probably have an extra set lying around in a closet).

Duh...? I mean thats how I've had everything TV related set up for years. Its the cheapest option for you to take at this point.

Yeah, the only way to not spend money is to go back to your old cables, but that would mean you wasted money on the cables, and wasting money is much worse than spending money.

put them together and your problem is solved.

True. I guess I shouldn't have assumed it would be known that was not an option, as sometimes people overlook simple things like that.

I think I have the second one covered. Maybe I'll buy that first thing when I'm not feeling like a cheapskate. I wasn't sure if that kind of thing existed so it is good to have confirmation on that. Thanks.

For now, I've just put my VCR behind my television since I rarely use that, and plugged the audio cables into it.

There is nothing to split, it is just one huge thick cable. Splitting it open would expose the wires within, I'm guessing? It isn't like a normal AV cable which can just be pulled apart.

Well you'd have to keep track of which wires belonged to which jack, but that wouldn't be too hard since they'd still be attached. Liberal application of electrical tape would fix it.

just spend the $3(+shipping) and keep your electronics from being a potential fire/electrical hazard. Besides, it would cost you more to replace the wires if you mess up than it would to just buy whats needed to extend them.

If you plan on upgrading your DVD player or TV in the near future, just throw in a set of component cables and/or a HDMI cable or 2 to justify the shipping cost. even with all that added in you still wouldn't be breaking a $20.

Mop it up - you misunderstod me. Get some RCA *EXTENSION* cables, as in male on one end, and female on the other, to make the audio cables longer so you can go directly to your receiver.

There's a big piece of plastic which connects the five cables into the big thick cable, I doubt it could be cut open. It isn't worth it anyway.

I don't have a DVD player and am fine with my current television. I'll just get one of those extension cables or doodads whenever I don't feel like being cheap.

Well then go get said cable...err order it. You could just open the outer casing of the 5 cables, too, as was suggested. Then just wrap them in electric tape or something if it exposes the non-black housing of the individual cables.
