The Genesis wasn't anywhere near as popular in Japan as it was in America, which is why Genesis games are 600 points there instead of 800. Since that was the only time Sonic was really good, most Japanese gamers don't have the nostalgia for the series that's basically the only thing sustaining it.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that. So it isn't too far off what I said, as the lower Genesis popularity resulted in the lower Sonic popularity.

Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest (known in PAL regions as Mystic Quest Legend) from Square Enix for SNES on VC (800 points)

Nice to see another title from Square-Enix on the Virtual Console, though I have absolutely no interest in Mystic Quest.

But now there's nothing standing between us and Final Fantasy II (VI).
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

I thought EDF was an original XBLA game. This series has been running since the SNES?

Technically it was an arcade game first, with the SNES version being a port of it.

As you may have seen, I have not been doing Japanese games in awhile. The site I usually get the info from hasn't done it in awhile and my limited time with a computer in the last month has meant I haven't had time to look for the info. I will do it soon though.

Bookworm from PopCap Games for DSiWare (500 points) - A note, this game will only be available in the United Kingdom and Ireland, not the rest of Europe.

Rytmik: Rock Edition from Cinemax for DSiWare (800 points)

This weeks North American releases:

Mix Superstar from Digital Leisure for WiiWare (500 points)

Adventure in Vegas: Slot Machine from Gamelion for DSiWare (200 points)

North America also gets a DSiWare App:

Play the demos if you are interested in purchasing the games, otherwise don't bother.
The Jett Rocket and ThruSpace demos basically just give you the training stages, so they'll give you an idea what the games are like but they, themselves, aren't very enjoyable. The Bit.Trip.Fate demo has the first two levels minus the second boss. I didn't play the And Yet It Moves demo since I have it, and I wouldn't recommend it because it's dull.

I really wanted to try And Yet It Moves because the concept was cool... but didn't want to pay because the game looked kind of boring.  Your comment reaffirms that impression.   I'll download the demo for later, but won't be in a rush to play.

I might be tempted to download Lufia II if it makes it to the Virtual Console, as the original cartridge costs way too much for my taste.

Wait, I thought we had Lufia on the VC? Or was that Breath of Fire?
You're probably thinking of the recent DS remake of Lufia.

I found something interesting on Neogaf:

Quote from: Neogaf
According to the guys at Gaijin Games, demos which are rated higher than bronze on the Nintendo Channel stay on longer than those which do not. Otherwise, the demos are GONE in a month.

Also if you anyone was wondering, Snowpack Park is made by Skip.

Maybe it's an internal thing we can't see based on play time and amount of downloads?

Alternatively, it could be based on how well the game is selling (again, something we don't see directly).
