Nintendo Download Games by Region
« on: May 13, 2009, 10:33:13 PM »
Based on a discussion here: http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=28137.0, I decided to turn this into a full thread. This is a list of games by region exclusivity. The "North America, but not PAL regions" ones, for example, are Virtual Console/WiiWare/DSiWare games that are out in North America but not Europe or Australia. I also keep track of games out in Japan but not any other region. I will update this thread 3 times a week (one after each regions update), but will keep it organized by making sure that this first post contains the most up to date list. Feel free to make suggestions to improve the list. The games here are listed by their North American name, Japanese-only games are listed by their English translated titles when possible.

Current list as of March 14, 2011:

I know. Even going by just the Virtual Console they are at 449 games, including a lot of great games we might never get. Why hasn't Konami released Castlevania: Rondo of Blood here for example? They already translated it for the PSP release, so that is not an issue.

Thanks for doing this!

I'm not sure how much trouble it would be but it might be worth it to divide the Japan-only games by whether they were ever released outside of Japan originally.  That list is huge and kind of unreadable.

Alternatively, it might just be easier to identify the titles of interest by either bolding them or putting them in a different color.  Examples would include Rondo of Blood, Smash Bros, Majora's Mask, Contra ReBirth, etc.
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

I think changing the color of games that were released outside of Japan is good. Until I compiled this list I didn't realize that some games have been released on multiple systems there (the Japanese VC has both the NES and Arcade versions of "The Tower of Druaga" for example).

Thanks. I don't know if NOE has a press site like NOA does, so I have to rely on messageboards like GAF for the PAL updates and GAF only had the WiiWare and DSiWare game listed.

Updated the list.

Pretty neat. Well done TJ.

It is quite sad how disproportionate the lists are. NCL should just retake control of NoE and NoA and handle things their way. Tired of not getting more games.

They probably aren't doing that because they can't find someone willing to be the one that has to tell Reggie he's not the boss anymore.

I think it's just business as usual, just this time people are compiling lists. I bet a list of retail games would have similar disparities.

At least with retail games you can modify your system and import the games. With Virtual Console and WiiWare your only option is to buy a Wii system from another region and buy points to buy from that regions store.

Or use a homebrew program to change your region at will. There is one but it if you have the 4.0 update then you can't use it because they haven't hacked that yet.

BTW, you list Super C both as "NA but not PAL" and "NA and PAL but not AUS" (it's definitely released as Probotector 2 in Europe)

Is silver star chess that game that came out as Wii Chess in Japan? It's about time that came over. I'm glad Majora came out in the US because it is an amazing Zelda. I won't be getting it because I still have the N64 game but I'm happy others that missed it will now get to enjoy it. I'm a bit turned off by the Crystal defenders series because of how they are bundled and cheaper on the HD D/L services. They should have combined them and just offered what didn't fit as DLC like with MLaaK and Space Invaders.

Nope, Wii Chess is from Nintendo. Silver Star Chess is NA name of "Saikyou Ginsei Chess", which was released on the Japanese WiiWare by Silver Star Japan and Electronic Arts.
