This Week In Nintendo Downloads
« on: May 11, 2009, 04:05:34 PM »
This week brings soccer to DSiWare, a pirate-themed party game for WiiWare, and an arcade classic for the Sega Genesis for the Virtual Console.
 http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/newsArt.cfm?artid=18415

Each platform gets one release each this week as Gameloft brings Real Soccer 2009 to DSiWare, Aksys Games brings Family Pirate Party to WiiWare, and Sega brings Galaxy Force II to the Virtual Console.

Real Soccer 2009 is a DSiWare version of the retail game that was released in 2008 for the DS. The DSiWare version features almost everything from the retail version, and includes an exclusive feature that utilizes the DSi camera to modify the soccer ball, team flag, and player faces with pictures that you take with the camera. Real Soccer 2009 is available for 800 DSi Points ($8).

Family Pirate Party continues Arc System Works' "Family" series of games in which players control one of the family members in a pirate-themed Mario Party-esque game. Players roll dice to sail the seas in order to collect various treasure from each island. Family Pirate Party is available for 500 Wii Points ($5).

The Virtual Console game this week is Galaxy Force II for the Sega Genesis, which originally debuted as a Sega arcade release and then was ported to the Sega Genesis in 1990. The game has a 3D view from behind the spaceship and features five different planets with different environments and obstacles. Players have to navigate through these worlds while destroying enemies and their strongholds on each planet. Galaxy Force II is available for 800 Wii Points ($8).

The only good news here is that Virtual Console is up to 299 games in North America.  Next week should be interesting, for once.  Majora's Mask is extremely likely, but maybe they'll go "crazy" and put up more than one at a time for this special occasion.

WHERE THE HELL IS SUPER SMASH BROS.? That better be next week as the 300th game. It's been almost 4 months since the game came out in Japan.

Come on Yoshi's Island!!
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

I haven't done one before since I don't know anyone who downloads from the Japanese Shop Channel. I might do one though if people want one. It will be huge though since Japan has over 400 VC games, so that is at least 100 games they have that we don't.

Greg has one and I think another NWR staffer does too so you could collaborate with them. It would be a pretty big undertaking though. Maybe only record games that have been released in other regions in the past to keep out all the obscure Japanese only games?

Here's a good list.

I will probably do it tomorrow. It's really only annoying starting it of coarse, updating it will be easy. I think it's a good idea to keep out games that were never released outside of Japan though to keep the size down.

So your going to do a whole thread dedicated to tracking the regional parity gap? That's a great idea.

I hadn't though about a thread dedicated to it, but that's a good idea. I will work on it and post it Thursday night (after the PAL update). I can update it after each regions releases but keep the original post in the thread up do date.

I think that's the best way to do it. Then we can have the information collectively on the first post for easy reference in discussion and keep the discussion in the same thread. If you made it part of another thread like the weekly D/L threads then it could get lost in the updates and also you would have to maintain two or more versions of the same list.

I think asking a mod to sticky it would be handy too, unless you make a separate post for each regions update because that would make it stay near the top of the board and keep it from being lost.

You want any help on it or do you think you got it under control?

I think I can handle it, but if I have any problems I will be happy to ask for help. I will put more effort into it to help increase the chances of it getting stickied, the above one was just something I put together in a few minutes.

I doubt that they even submitted it to Nintendo for certification. If they are almost done, they are probably in the debug phase.

I want to know why we still haven't gotten Skate or Die! yet when it's been out in PAL regions since December 2007. I loved the NES version and would love to play it. As you can see from my list, Nintendo has plenty of games out in one region or another and could up it to 2 games per week for the Virtual Console. Hell, at 2 games per week Europe could go the next 16 weeks just catching up to the ones out in North America, Australia could go the next 23 1/2 based on those out in North America and/or Europe, North America could go the next 11 1/2 based on those out in Europe and/or Australia.
