Microsoft E3 leaks from twitter
« on: May 10, 2009, 01:22:21 PM »
Supposedly a twitter user dropped some interesting details. Right now it seems like everything is a rumor so take it with a grain of salt.
http://twitter.com/GameFork

Below are some interesting tidbits:

MS E3 big drops. Xbox Fluid - New Motion camera! Splinter Cell Conviction Halo ODST Alan Wake APB Metal Gear Solid 4 + Oxide (Show Finale)

Yes. Metal gear solid + Oxide is one title. :)

For the questions about MGS+O being show finale: Konami will announce a 360 exclusive (NOBODY outside of Kon has been told what this is)...

.. After that they announce MGS4+O as a 360 exclusive. MS have also cut LostPlan2, AssCreed2, Bioshock 2, GTA.BAAFLC, to 3 min slots.

E3: The Molyneux / Lionhead project "Richter" will show at E3. In fact, it will open it After Progress/xbla titles are shown

If this is true and this is it it doesn't seem like much of a show for Microsoft. A bunch of games we already knew about plus a Metal Gear port that I assumed was going to happen. I guess the Konami exclusive could be big.

Wouldn't them hyping up a big reveal that was going to be that be like Reggie saying Animal Crossing was the big game for core gamers last year? I guess it is Microsoft's turn to lose E3, Nintendo lost last year and Sony the year before.

I wonder why they are going with a camera though, probably so that they dont have to force people to buy 4 new controllers. But the Xbox vision failed, Totem Ball was a free game that sucked and we all know what happened to you're at the movies.

Well Nintendo patented using a camera the other way around, so I don't think they can really go that route while in direct competition with Nintendo. The Ninja Assassin Lawyers would dismantle MS from the inside out.

Motion control is not gonna go far going the eyetoy route.
I don't think anybody wants to knowingly stand up and make a jackass out of themselves infront of a camera that is connected to a machine that is hooked up to the internet. I can only imagine the hacks to the system that would provide countless hours of visual content from people being unknowingly watched on their webcams playing motion games & doing other things.

All great points, plus the fact that the camera will be nowhere near as precise as MotionPlus and be completely incapable of any kind of pointer functionality. It's a competitor for the EyeToy, not the Wii Remote. Now with this and Sony's PSP leak Nintendo may be the only ones that have any surprises left come E3.

Didn't MS have problems with the last camera they released for the 360?
problems along the lines of what I was describing in my previous post?

Yeah they did, the Xbox vision was just a standard USB webcam with crap quality, I actually own one of them and it's a PoS. The playstation eye is much much better.

The question now, I think, is whether Konami's exclusive could possibly be enough to prevent this press conference from being about as effective as last year's Nintendo conference. Aside from the incredibly unlikely 360-exclusive MGS5 does Konami have anything that huge?

All sounds like wishful thinking by an Xbox fanboy, but if most of that turns out to be true, it would be a good showing for Microsoft.  I'm curious to try MGS4, but it looks like I'll eventually get a PS3 anyway once the price drops low enough.

It's a good lineup, but nearly all of it is stuff we already knew, plus a port of a year and a half old game, Molyneux's game that will be about half as good as he says and most likely won't be out this year, and a mystery Konami game. That's a pretty low bar for Sony and Nintendo.

There is some incredible technology coming out with Gesture Based Camera controls.  If Microsoft is using something more advanced with the camera control then it could be amazing.

Think about it, if the Camera can identity movement in 3D space, which that technology exists today...and they create some advanced facial tracking and even body tracking software you can do some amazing stuff with a Camera controller.  Personally, I don't see making a fool out of yourself with a Camera much different than playing Wii Sports Tennis, Dance Dance Revolution, Guitar Hero, or the likes.

If you pack it in with a great Exercise game then it would sell like hotcakes.  I am looking forward to seeing E3.

The reason I mentioned that was because people had their cameras hooked up to their xboxes and other people were able to tap into them and see what they were doing even though the people on camera didn't know someone else was watching. It was like a 24hr webcam as long as your xbox was hooked up to the internet.

Now that did happen right, or am I remembering a false truth?

Zone Of The Enders 3 will not happen as long as Konami contiunes to push Kojima's buttons.

Quite sad, really.   :(

If MGS4 comes to 360 then it seals the deal with which of the HD systems I will get. I was leaning towards a PS3 solely for MGS4. This cuts the legs off anything Sony could do.

I saw people demo'ing camera recognition motion control back in E3 2001.  They looked quite the retard.

I tried a head-tracking mouse replacement for PC FPS.  It was awful.

The Wii can already track a person's position if you put the Wiimote on top of the television and wear the sensor bar (or a source of IR) on your head. I suppose it wouldn't be as advanced as a camera since it could tell only which way you are looking, but the feature wouldn't require purchasing another accessory. If Microsoft or Sony do unveil such a gesture-based camera, I wonder if we'll finally see a Wii game attempt this.

MSG4 is pretty much reason number one to own a PS3 over an Xbox 360.  So while it may just be a port for MS it does remove an exclusive from Sony.  It's really no different than when GTA went to the Xbox or RE4 went to the PS2.  Did anyone have to buy a PS2 to play Resident Evil 4?  No.  But now people didn't need to buy a Gamecube to get it.  It gives one less reason to buy the competition and that's always an asset.  I may consider getting an Xbox 360 entirely because of this.

Doing an Eyetoy like gimmick to compete with the Wiimote is pretty lame.  If you're going to compete with the Wii then just rip-off the Wiimote as close as you can.  You can't win with providing half-assed alternatives.  Being a Nintendo fan taught me that LONG ago.  You match the competition and introduce your own new ideas to get ahead.  No one will buy something that is "sort of" like the Wiimote.  It has to be as good or better.

This lineup is pretty good it just lacks surprises.  Had they put off any reveals of these games no one would be predicting MS to "lose" E3.  In the grand scheme of things what really matters is what games are coming out in the next year.  We do tend to like surprises at E3 and are often disappointed if nothing new is revealed but once that wears off what's in the pipeline is what really matters.

Is there any other critical PS3 exclusive titles or is MGS the last bastion of hope for Sony?

But having the option on another system still steal a lot of thunder from Sony even if they get it first. Just like RE4 going multi-platform or any other title. If gamers know they don't HAVE to have said system for a certain game they will wait until it is offered on one they own as opposed to grabbing the system early. People can safely buy a Nintendo system because that is where Mario and Zelda will always be. You used to be able to get a Playstation with the confidence that it was the only system to get a main line FF title. Not so anymore.

Also, waiting for the next version could lead to special goodies. RE4 on PS2 have special extras from the GC version and if you waited even longer like me you could get RE4 on Wii hand have the graphics of the GC version plus the extras of the PS2 version with motion controls.

It's not like Japan has a big PS3/360 fanbase. The success of FF13 will be judged upon the numbers of NA and EU combined.
