If you get first place in the bug catching contest you can get one.:)
I have one on Platinum. I think you can get items from the pokewalker courses. I need to check real quick to see what items you can get.

Edit:Well you can't get a Dusk stone via the pokewalker courses.

My team is rotating around based on need, since I'm trying to review the game within a week. So once I started trading dead weight Pokemon for my unwanted Pearl Pokemon, I started moving through pretty quick-like. I need to trade over my Bibarrel. He's my Swiss-Army HM Slave. I just beat the Ghost gym leader with...basically a combination of Croconaw (Bite) and Gallade (Dark Pulse).

I am, however, trying to fill my Pokedex. Whenever I encounter a new Pokemon, I do try to catch it. I should just trade over ever Gold/Silver Pokemon I can from Pearl. Actually, yeah, why am I not doing that?
This would be my PSN Trophy Card, but I guess I can't post HTML in my Signature. I'm the pixel spaceship, and I have nine Gold trophies.

I got it in the mail this morning and I've played about an hour into it, time that I really should have spent studying for a quiz I have in an hour. I chose Chikorita, thinking long term as I have other water and fire types that I'd rather use. I'm not crazy enough and can't afford spending the time to try and catch them all, I just want to play through the story.

You can get a Dusk Stone from the pokeathlon dome.  It's available on thursdays, for 2500 points.  You get points by winning the events, but you even get them for losing, so it should only take a bit of time to get enough!

I caught a golden magikarp in the lake of rage, its my first shiny!  I feel cheated...

Does anybody else's pokewalker seem, generous?  I've never thought about how many steps I take in a day, but between walking around my job, and walking around campus I've taken around 14,000 a day.  I've switched to the clip today, to see if I was getting extra steps from it jostling around, but it seems to be acting the same.

team so far is, Poliwhirl, Jolteon, Hypno, and Murkrow.  Also a cyndaquill I want to replace.  I'm also using geodude, farfetch'd, and psyduck as HM guys, rotating them in and out based on the situation.  So far HM use isn't as ridiculous as it was in Pearl.

It stopped you from evolving something?  That seems a little strange.

A friend of mine bounced a turtwig off me into his Gold game, and it didn't stop us.  It's funny though because he's not in the dex yet.

Probably can't get the National Dex until you encounter all of the Johto Pokemon.

No Pokemon's HM use is as bad as in Pearl/Diamond/Platinum. I thought it got out of hand once you had to have half of your team dedicated to HM usage to go anywhere you wanted at any time. They should just leave those obstacles out of the way once you get through it once. Should I really have to re-cut a bush EVERYTIME I want to pass by?

Does anyone else evolve their pokemon really late in the game? Like I wait until they are like 26 or 30 or something just to get them into their middle stage. For my starters anyway. I feel like I never get to know them and then they learn their moves super late.

I always evolve mine as soon as possibly unless said evolution would prevent them from learning a move they couldn't otherwise.

I seem to recall that delaying evolution got you the later moves sooner but they suffered in the stats department so in the long run it would hurt your team. Better to have more levels with the boosted stats of the evolved forms I would think.

Evolution has no affect no long term stats, so you don't have to worry about that.  It pretty much just changes what moves they learn and when.

I thought the evolutions had different base stats?  Or is that only if you find them in the wild in that form?

Stats are calculated based on what your Pokemon is at the moment, not what it's been before.  Whether you turn a Squirtle into Wartortle at level 16 or 24, when the Wartortle reaches level 28 or whatever level, it's stats won't be affected by when it evolved.

So yes, from 16-23, the Wartortle's stats would be higher than the Squirtle's, but as soon as it evolves at level 24, they'd be the same, unless they fought different Pokemon, in which case they'd be slightly different.

Yeah what thatguy says is true.

As for evolving pokemon early or keeping it at its base form the lower evolution gets moves quicker than the later forms. Also there may be a case where one of the lower forms gets moves that the later ones don't.There is also the case of when at a certain level it gets a move that the earlier form doesn't get.
So it varies on a Pokemon to pokemon basis. When none of these are a factor I typically evolve it to the next form.

There usually is at least one move that a Pokemon will learn without evolving that it will NOT learn after evolving. This is especially consistent with three-stage forms. However, I've found it's best not to worry about that unless you're playing competatively. Besides, a lot of powerful moves can be purchased or found as TM's.

Does Pokemon Ranch really not support these new games? How can Nintendo be that stupid? I paid good money for that damn WiiWare game.

It doesn't.  I believe there was an update done in Japan, but there hasn't been one announced yet in North America for some reason.

So, I've decided I'd raise a Scizor, and I figured while I get it up to the level of my normal team, I'd EV train it like the people who are good at the game do.  Why not do it right?

If you got a good draw on the IVs and Technician for the ability, it'll serve you well.

Bullet Punch/X-Scissor (until you can teach it Bug Bite)/Aerial Ace/Rock Smash (yes, Rock Smash) has way more type coverage than you'd think.

I have no idea what the IV's are, but I traded via the GTS to get a Scyther, then bread it until I got an Adamant and Technician one.  Now I've got about 15 spare Scyther, but it really didn't take all that long.

I was thinking about giving it
Bullet Punch
U-turn/X-Scissor (Probably U-turn, especially if it's 60 BP like I believe it is)
Pursuit
Aerial Ace/Brick Break/something else (I've seen Ancient Power or something like that mentioned before.)
and usually sticking a Choice Band or something on it.  That seems pretty standard in competitive play, and any time I'd fight with mine against other people would be casual competitive, so the IVs and such don't need to be perfect.  Still, it won't take very long, gaining the EVs will happen simultaneously with leveling up, just in HP and Attack only, and it'll be useful.
