IV's take too long to breed for. I do EV train. It's easy to do as long as you have pokerus and a macho brace. Unless it's a legendary at a giveaway event I won't deal with IV's. Breeding takes forever just to get pokemon with a good nature.

What is the difference between IV and EV training?

It's all really complicated and kind of nerdy, but for those that want to battle competitively, they're necessary to learn.

I believe IV's are Individual Values. They're the base stats every pokemon start out with. Pokemon all have different stats when bred. They can be the same type, gender, and nature, but will grow differently. One pokemon will have their stats grow slowly over time and never reach it's fullest potential, while another will reach those caps easily.

EV's are Effort Values. EV's help boost stats when you train your pokemon. For example, every time your Charizard defeats a Zubat, it not only gains experience, but 1 EV for Speed. If it defeats a Ghastly, it will gain 1 EV for Special Attack. All pokemon have a set limit of EV's it can learn, which is 510 I believe. However, once it reaches 255 EV's in a stat, it is officially maxed out. It will still grow every time you level up, but you can't give it more EV's. It's similar to giving your pokemon carbos, zinc, or an HP Up, but without having to find or buy them.

It's a lot to learn, and if you just want to have fun it's best not to worry about it. You can beat the normal game just fine without worrying about them. However, if you want to battle competitively, or do Battle Frontier and Battle Tower, it's necessary.

LOL, so there are two types. I thought I was just forgetting what they were called when I couldn't remember if they were IVs or EVs. Yeah, I stay away from that stuff. I don't get to play too many people at the game anyways.

I hate that stupid statistical stuff, I'm glad you don't have to do any of that to get through the main game or else I'd never have finished it. I just bought a bunch of the stat-boosting items from the store and forced them down the Pokémon's throat until they were too disgusted to drink any more. And those items increase their affection too, so I got a whole bunch of Return TMs and created an army who used the powers of... love!

As a franchise Pokémon is the epitome of everything I hate about big business. But the games themselves aren't so bad.

EV training isn't too hard, especially if you watch tv or something while you do it. It's cheaper than buying the vitamins to boost them. They do make the game needlessly more complicated, though. I kind of wish for the days when it wasn't in the game. I almost quit playing through LeafGreen when I realized what Natures were and how they worked with your Pokemon.

The 'special traits' or whatever they are were a bit of putting to me. Now a Pokemon that should be weak to ground moves has a 'hover' ability that makes them immune? Kind of a double edged sword. I don't hate them, but I'd rather they weren't in the game.

All this fanangled EV-IV-Trait-Behavior junk has killed any interest I had to doing any local tournaments.

I didn't like any of the new features added into Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald such as the natures and the dual battles, they just made the battles more random and tedious. I guess that stuff is probably all going to be added to this remake...

Completely random, but I wonder if they will change how when a flying type uses Dig, it still can't get hit by Earthquake...

Well if you preorder either HeartGold or Soul Silver from Gamestop you can get Ho-oh and Lugia figurines as a preorder bonus. Be sure to check if your store has the items before preordering. These will be avalable at other stores you just got to double check if they are offering these bonuses.

Biggest advancement in the blasted series so far...

There is an item that you can attach to a pokemon, when the baby breeds it will pass along the IV of that stat!

Finally! I can relax!

Oh and I love the extra abilities of the pokemon, it's almost like a 5th move and it really adds more depth to battling. Unlike the whole IV system. Thouh the IV system was more or less in the original games, it's only now one can really really affect it after literaly hundreds of hours of breeding. And without any dodrio mode who in the HELL wants to do that?

The physical special split, just about brought me back to competing with people, but the IV thing really bumed me out. But every day I just try to tell meself, breed about 20, see which is best and us it. But with this new item happening, at least I can ensure one or 2 of my stats to be the maximum on my pokemon.

I don't really worry about IVs. I just get the right nature pokemon and then EV train it. It takes a while to get the right natured pokemon. So I don't want to worry about IVs.

Well it's easy to get the right nature pokemon, just catch a bunch of dittos with that nature, give it an ever stone and you got a 50% chance of getting the baby with that nature.

True but at the moment the place in Platinum that I can get dittos are the Trophy Garden. It has to be the Daily pokemon. I'm better of catching them from fire red and transfering them over.

For those that would like to know. Starting January 30th at Gamestop they will be giving a special Pichu. When transfered to Heart Gold and Soul Silver it will give access to Spiky eared Pichu. If that wasn't enough Jirachi will be given out at Gamestop starting Febuary 27th to March 13th. Heart Gold and Soul Silver will be released in the states March 14th.

Both of these are for Pearl/Diamond/Platinum.

OP updated. Thanks Maxi.

What was everyone's teams back on the original versions and will you go with the same team or do you plan to change it up some? I'm thinking I'll keep the core team but adjust a few of them to better balance out everyone. My original Blue version team had a prevalent weakness to electric and I recall still having an issue with it in my changed up Gold version team.

I know for sure I will have Scizor and Kabutops but outside of them I'm open to changing things up drastically.
