Super Mario 64 DS is a decent remake. It doesn't offer a suitable control replacement for an analogue stick, but because the game has been made easier it shouldn't matter.
You might want to try out Mario Hoops 3-on-3 too. The controls are creative but they don't work very well in execution; if I had the thumb strap maybe they'd have been better. It's the kind of thing you'll need to try out for yourself to decide. There is also a lack of game modes, and the Final Fantasy characters are overpowered and feel out-of-place, but the gameplay is still solid.
Those two and New Super Mario Brothers are all I've played really, besides demos. Though I'm still going to recommend Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time, as if it is anything like the first game, it is pure awesomity.
