According to the latest issue of Famitsu Weekly, Capcom's newest entry to the Resident Evil series will be called The Darkside Chronicles. The title, an on-rails shooter, will be a continuation of The Umbrella Chronicles.

Players will start the game in the Resident Evil 2 storyline, battling the T-Virus infected local inhabitants of Raccoon City. As in The Umbrella Chronicles, up to two players will be able to defeat the zombie citizens.

This is a huge disappointment if this is the new Resident Evil game being talked about recently.

I'm not really surprised, nor disappointed, nor particularly excited.  Umbrella Chronicles is a good game with some aspects that could be improved, so this is a chance for them to up the ante.  But the way Capcom hyped up the announcement, revealing it on the week of RE5's release and telling Wii owners how pleased they will be, this is probably not the ideal outcome.  RE4 Wii Edition still considerably outsold Umbrella Chronicles, and it's a much better game, so I think most of us were hoping for some kind of follow up to that instead.

I'm actually more interested in this than Resident Evil 5 both as a single player and a co-op game.

Babelfishers are reporting this is supposed to be easier than Umbrelly Cornicles.  What the ****.

Were people that terrible at it?  Did they not learn how to upgrade weapons, replay old stages and restock ammo?  The game was fine for singles, on normal difficulty.  The only things to really hamper the player are the obnoxiously large reticule, its obstructive dot-sight blur, and the funky acceleration readings from the IR pointer -- the real things that lead to "i can't do teh headshots!"  Fixing those would significantly streamline the playability.

It still looks like it'll be at least a year before we see a proper survival horror action-adventure Resident Evil title to follow RE4.
Were people that terrible at it?
Considering alot of HD games use more flash then skill, I don't find this surprising.

It wasn't great at the game, but I got S rankings on some of the stages. On Hard mode.

I never finished the 1st one, not because it was too hard, but because I lost interest.(The game can be very difficult & I think it was designed to be played co-op, but isn't impossible on the solo)
The game was interesting, but it just seemed to move too slow at times & the only thing that made me hold on and play as long as i did was the co-op play. (seriously, this game can be a little too difficult when played by yourself)

If UC2 can move a little bit quicker & lighten up the difficulty just a lil bit on Normal mode by putting in some sort of calibration (like HotD:Overkill), then I might pick it up eventually.

I really think Calibration might a big reason the game isn't as good as it could have been.

Another reason it doesn't count as a "light gun game," and is just a mere Wii Play Shooting clone.

Meh. Really, all I can say. I don't think REUC even came out here so REDC will be another game I won't even have to decide not to buy because the decision is being made for me. Oh, hey, look, Dead Rising isn't coming out either! Neither is Mad World! Well, the Wii is now officially hitting 360 syndrome (Condemned, Dead Rising and Gears of War not coming out here).

If they say its easier I hope it means that the single player has been balanced. One of my issues with the original was that the game was tailored around the 2 player experiences, meaning that some bosses, battles and monsters were easier to take down with two players than with one. It wasn't by any means impossible, but it would have helped to have some advantage in single player.

Regarding Capcom's comment, I agree that they should just have said "UC 2 is in the works, first footage on March 13th". It was a mistake on their behalf, and should be a cautionary tale for both fans and the industry.

But looking at the other side, remember that on-rails shooters weren't a problem with Dead Space was announced. People liked UC and some even wished a sequel would happen so we would get the missing chapters. But after EA dropped the DS bomb how on-rails shooters are a problem, and Capcom hyping up the release was not helping it.

They likely expected fans to be surprised since the first game was a surprise success, and UC 2 hopes to continue that.

The first Umbrella Chronicles was significantly easier on a large television. A level I got a C on playing on my 26" Widescreen was so much easier on a 60" Widescreen that I got an A.

Personally, I loved REUC and was disappointed that RE2's scenario wasn't playable in it.  Since Leon's showing up for the RE2 stuff in this one, maybe they'll throw some RE4 in as well?  Or maybe even a scenario based on Degeneration?

:( Disappointment. I'm tired of being disappointed.

And I own UC, so I suppose it's partly my fault that the numbers were good enough for the title that they think we all want a sequel. But I, like BnM, lost interest before finishing it. The co-op was the only thing keeping me playing, and when I didn't have that anymore, I stopped.

Since this puts an end to real Resident Evil games, I hope Disaster: Day of Crisis comes out next month.

One issue is that while UC was a nice change of pace and HotD was a long running series that's really enough by now, we don't need more rail shooters and we especially don't need them in series that traditionally have a different genre that the Wii is lacking in. That just feels like the Wii is getting pigeonholed as the lightgun shooting system. I don't think technical requirements were the only reason the genre has been on the brink of extinction for so long. It also doesn't help when NWR staff says a non-railshooter could be a railshooter. I got my fill of the genre with Rayman and Wii Play.

I, for one, am excited. As many of you know, I've been begging Capcom for a sequel for months. And they listed! Now we'll be able to experience the main events of Code Veronica without having to actually play Code Veronica. So that's exciting.

But more importantly, if all goes as planned, we'll get to play as Leon "S." Kennedy twice. But I wonder how they'll justify two-player co-op for RE4 missions, if RE4 is included...
