Question about Wii messages
« on: February 26, 2009, 09:14:54 PM »
I'm wondering if one of you fine folks here can help answer this question.

If a message is sent to the Wii, but the standby connection is turned off, does the message just disappear?

I've seen some people state that when they have the standby connection turned off, they'll still receive any messages sent to the Wii the next time they power it on. This isn't the case for me. When I first got the Wii, I didn't use the standby connection. My friend asked why I never responded to any of her messages, but I never received any. I also don't receive official messages from Nintendo if the standby connection isn't on (or if the system is unplugged), such as the Mario Kart tournament messages.

Is this how it is supposed to work? Does anyone here have experience in this?

No. The message will be received as soon as you power the console on and its connected to the internet.

I've had instances in which I lose power, but when it returns I get any messages I lost during the day.

I think you need to check your Wi-Fi/stand by settings and see if anything is turned off by mistake.

I checked and WiiConnect24 is set to "on", which I'm pretty sure it always has been.
Are there any specific options I should tinker with?

I don't really care about receiving messages, but if the system isn't operating as it should, that's what concerns me. I guess I'll add my email address to the Wii, then try changing some settings or something and send myself test messages.

Thank you for the response.
