Nice. I enjoyed the ORIGINAL game. I used to play with my nephew. Not sure if I would get it for myself, cause I'd have nobody to play with.

Well I enjoyed playing Summer games.I tried to get the records. Thats a great thing to do if you don't have many people around.
I also remember Mario posting on here that it was at least a rent. After some impresions from the forum members I decided to get it. I enjoy it.

F*CK YEAH!

I loved "Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games". Like Maxi, I worked hard towards breaking the world records and getting medals. It was insanely fun.

I hope this uses the balance board, especially since the first event we see in the teaser is the snowboard race.

EDIT: Never mind, just read the press release :)

I thought the first game was kind of an underwhelming choice for the first ever Mario/Sonic team up but this seems like a perfectly logical sequel to make.  Eh, why not?

The game would naturally take place in Vancouver which is kind of neat for a BC boy like me.  But the important thing is this - will this effectively provide a Mario Hockey game?  They don't mention it in the press release but to a Canadian that's largely the hook of the Winter Olympics in the first place.

Wouldn't Mario Hockey play a bit too much like Mario Strikers? I know that football and hockey have some differences but in a videogame those differences are less pronounced.

They have to have bobsledding in this, that would be a lot of fun.

I hope that the balance board is optional, especially since this is a multiplayer game.

However the game turns out, it had better have Toad and Birdo as playable characters. If it doesn't, well... that would just be BLASPHEMY!

Well if you're going to use that kind of logic why have different racing games for cars, trucks, boats, motorcycles, gokarts, running, skiing, snowboarding, futuristic hovercars?  They all revolve around being the fastest.

Hockey and soccer have different fanbases so I think it makes perfect sense to have some sort of Mario Hockey if you're going to continue to make Mario sports games.  As similar as the games appear to be I don't know many hockey fans who are seriously interested in soccer.  If there is worry that hockey is too regional of a sport to justify a Mario sports game then this Olympic game is a good way to provide a Mario Hockey to people who would want it in a package that will have more universal appeal because of the Olympic connection.

Mario Hockey...

It would rock so hard if they had a fighting mini game in it. Like after a few foul plays the characters get angry and start to fight.

That is true, I suppose I didn't think that one through.

I don't want to see Mario characters fighting unless it is Smash Brothers. Besides, in the case of this game in question, I don't think Nintendo would like the thought of Sonic knocking the teeth out of Mario.

There wasn't any fighting in the Hockey game in Mario Party 5, so I think Nintendo feels alright leaving that out.

If Next Level Games (the guys behind Mario Strikers Charged) made Mario Hockey rest assured they would give the Mario characters a lot of attitude and would create their take on hockey fighting.

Nintendo didn't have a problem with Waluigi's crotch chop celebration why should they be upset over slapstick?

I think I just threw up in my mouth a little.
Next Level Games should not be allowed anywhere near the Mario series ever again. Their take on the Mario universe is one of the most depressing things I have ever witnessed, it is truly disheartening to see them take something so innocent and turn it into... THAT. Not to mention that they obviously have never heard of the words "balance" or "strategy".

You know who else does crotch-chops in Mario Strikers Charged? Birdo. You can see it in the background of Waluigi's celebration if he's on his team.

Just to clarify, it wasn't the fighting I said that Nintendo would have a problem with, it is if it were graphically-depicted fighting between Mario and Sonic. I know they're in Smash together but that isn't anywhere near as brutal and gritty as hockey fighting can get.

I absolutely LOVE the Mario characters, yet I didn't have any issues with how Next Level Games presented them. In fact, I really liked it.

First of all, the only one that was edgy was Waluigi with his crotch chop. But everyone else just showed a funny competitive attitude which I enjoyed. The animation is amazing and there's this life usually missing from the other Mario games outside of the main platformers.

And I thought it was pretty balanced. Yeah, its far darker and edgier than the rainbow colored characters we are used to, but I still see a sense of fun in them.

This has so much potential.

If you get a good arcade Hockey game, decent racing games, Figure Skating Dance type game, Some of the skate racing games that would behave like the swimming in the first.

You can have a great game.  Hooray.

Figure skating... with Birdo. Sign me up for that! :)

It is just a matter of personal taste. I find that any art style which uses dark colours and dramatic shading depresses me, and I've never really understood why. In something like a shooter, that kind of art style is okay because I don't want to have a big grin on my face (at least, not a happiness-induced grin  ;D ). Certain games need to be cheerful or else I just can't get into them. It certainly isn't a bad thing that NLG wanted to create a different take on Mario characters, but what they've turned it into isn't for me and I don't want to see more of it.

I still play the game on occasion, I just can't take very much of it at one time. If it followed the more traditional Mario style and had less cheap tricks, it would have been a better game for me.

I would like to play the Cross-Country with Rifle shooting game (forgot it's name).
Curling and Hockey would also rock. Curling on the old Nagano '98 Olympics N64 game became a staple at my house next to Mario Kart.

I've written this before, but I'll say it again. Mario Strikers is more of an arcade hockey game than it is a soccer game. If you look at it, there's (how can you say "there are" ) so many similarities that it's uncanny. First, the hitting/bodychecking in general. You get a penalty (in this case you give the other team an item) for hitting them when they don't have the puck (ball). They even allow the split-second grace period to hit someone just after they've gotten rid of the ball without penalising you. Not to mention the walls around most of the stadiums that you can bash people into - just like boards in hockey.

There's lots of other stuff - the charging up (slapshot), the emphasis on rebounds and one-timers, the smaller nets, the fact that it's 4-on-4, the faster pace and smaller stadium,  etc, etc. PLUS it's made in Canada by Next Level Games, AND the theme song sounds eerily like something out of "Hockey Night in Canada".

So my point is that a Mario Hockey game would be very similar to Strikers.. but I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

That was my point in a lot more words, Mario Strikers is such a contrived version of football that it's hardly even football anymore. It's like field hockey, with no skating and no sticks.

If there is a Mario Hockey (and I'd like to see it in some form), it would have to do something different other than simply adding items and skillshots into the mix. I'm not sure what they could do with it but I just hope it isn't a ripoff of Mario Strikers, especially since I'm not fond of that game.
