Given how Nintendo's more casual titles have sold I don't think it matters when they start selling it, it will sell all through the year!

I'm not arguing that it's going to have selling power. What I'm arguing is this. Let's say I've made a game. Wii Fencing. And it requires Wii Motion Plus. I can't release my game until Nintendo makes that peripheral widely available.

That is why I think Wii Sports Resorts release date might be affected be Wii Motion Plus. If there are other games that need are nearing completion that require it, Nintendo would probably have to release the game earlier in the year. If not, they can take their time as to when they release it.

And chances are it is the latter since I don't think Nintendo went to third party developers and let them know that they were making Wii Motion Plus.

I keep forgetting that E3 comes later and later in the year these days.

Nintendo's Q3 financial report shows a first half 2009 Calendar Year release in NA for both Punch Out and Wii Sports Resort, so I think that Pale's right, these games will have just been released by E3. It doesn't mean that Nintendo wouldn't make a big deal of them at their show though.

I'm curious as to what Nintendo's big third-party game(s) will be. The Conduit, HOTD; Overkill, and Madworld may all already be out by E3 2009. It'd be very exciting if it was some big Motion Plus surprise project, maybe Red Steel 2? Or maybe it'll be an RPG line-up? Or a survival horror line-up?

Wasn't High Voltage going to include MOtion Plus? I'd think that would be an indication of Wii Sports Resort being released in spring.

The giddy Nintendo fan in me hopes that Iwata thinks this year will be the time to start the next stage of disruption in earnest and launch a heavy push upmarket.  It has to happen sometime.  Last E3 was when Nintendo braced for the incumbents' counteroffensive that never materialized, and it's possible that Iwata and company were emboldened by that.  Still, I prefer not to get hyped up, so I'll restrain my inner fan for now.

(I've been reading malstrom's articles again, if you couldn't tell.)

I could tell, lol.

I don't know what an upmarket push would look like though. I'd actually appreciate an up-market "pull," if that makes any sense. I imagine that would be something done through light-gun games (House of the Dead: Overkill) puzzle titles (Boom Blox 2) and point-and-click titles.

As for Motion-Plus, I've heard conflicting reports about whether developers are or are not working on it. It may be possible that limited numbers of developers have gotten Motion Plus SDKs up to this point.

Unless Nintendo alllows 3rd party developers to package in the hardware.  I would love for the Conduit to come packed with the software as well.

I'd like Nintendo to reveal one game, that I can get really excited about, due for release later in the year.  Something that I'm going to be routinely checking my calendar to see how much longer it is until release.  Something I'll rush out on day one to buy only to likely be disappointed because Canada didn't get it until a day or two later.  The sort of game that the next day at work after I've already played it I can't concentrate because I'm just thinking about the game and what I'm going to find next when I get home that night.  Think of the anticipation for a Metroid, Zelda or Mario game though it doen't have to be specifically THOSE franchises to do it.

That more than anything was why last year's show was so disappointing to me.  It had nothing that did that for me.  Wario Land turned out to be quite good but it wasn't "that" type of game.  That anticipation is part of the joy of being a gamer to me.  Nintendo outright failed to do that last year and frankly there's nothing due before E3 that I know about that gives me that kind of feeling.  So I feel deprived and almost need Nintendo to release at least one game like that in 2009.

Two would be better of course. ;)  One for fall and one for winter?  Hell, one for the second half and 2009 and one for the first half of 2010 would be okay.

That's not asking for too much actually Ian.

Hmm.... would you be happy with a Star Fox or F-Zero? Because honestly, those were examples of "that" sort of game for me back in the N64 days. Heck, Mario Kart was "that" kind of game too if you think about it.

Yeah. Even though I like Pikmin and am excited about Pikmin 3, its not something I'll be counting down the days for.

Frankly, I just want some closure on Kirby. Is that former Gamecube game now a Wii game ever going to see the light of day again. I want Kirby! Kirby! Kirby! Kirby! Why have you betrayed HAL and not let them release a Kirby game, Iwata? Is it because you are afraid? Afraid that if you let HAL shine again in the spotlight, a rival may come up to take your place as head of Nintendo? Are you afraid that someone will follow your path to the top and challenge you for supremacy? Is that why they have been kept silent for so long?

The trailer for the game looked so good. It gave off vibes of Kirby Superstar. Can you beleive that the last real Kirby we've had for a Nintendo console is Kirby 64? Kirby's Air Ride doesn't count. It's a racing game not a platformer. Just let us know what had happened to the pink puff. If the game was shelved, fine. But still make a 3D Kirby game. Just make one already.

Also, some news on Disaster Day of Crisis would be great. Or Captain Rainbow. That would be interesting.

EDIT: Oooooooooooh. F-Zero would also be kickbutt. After it's awesome showing on GC, that would be a game I would countdown the days for. But, it would have to be made by AV again. Otherwise, I'd be worried about how it might turn out.

I actually agree with Pro. This February we get Deadly Creatures, and HOTD: O all in one month followed by Madworld in early March.

I love F-Zero but it's kind of played, you know?  Racing games don't usually have that effect on me anyway.  But I certainly buy it, just not count the days until release.

Star Fox is damaged goods so I can't imagine getting excited about a new one.  Even if EAD was working on it would be a wait-and-see.  But really the series just needs a big comeback game and I would get interested in it again.

Pikmin 3 will do it for me easy.  Pikmin 2 was my favourite Cube game.

Ian Sane:  Interesting, I agree with you just one great game that I would count the days for is all I need as well...but what Nintendo franchise would be that game?

Star Fox?  Maybe if it is done right....but Sin and Punishment 2 will be the hardcore shooter this year Star Fox can wait.
F-Zero:  Not really, I like F-Zero, but I did not like the direction of the Sega F-Zero, it became too difficult and not enjoyable to play.
Metroid:  Too early, unless it was a 2D (Sprites) and then I would be counting the minutes.
New Mario or Zelda:  Of course I would be counting the days.
Pikmin:  Not really counting the days.
New IP:  I think I would be more excited about a new IP than some of these others.

I would be happy if they just showed a big wealth of games, both first and third party. One of the big issues with last year's E3 was that they barely talked about games, not even third party efforts worth noting.

The Fall conference, however, was different because they showed a lot of games. Even if Nintendo doesn't announce a megaton with release date if they show a lot of games I am happy.

Wii Sports Resort and Punch Out will almost definitely be released before E3, so I don't count them as being there.

We also know they aren't going to ignore the [fill in the blank] market either, so I wonder what they will do for them.  Wii Fit 2 with motion plus support seems pretty definite in my mind.  I just hope they don't dedicate more than 40% of the press conference to it.  I'll definitely buy it if they add some sort of routine system to it.

Going off my GDC prediction (which I shamelessly stole from GP) I expect Pikmin 3 (which will only be shown in trailer form at GDC) to be playable.

One thing I wish they'd do but I doubt it will happen is do something to reinvigorate the Virtual Console.  Namely, I'd love to see an announcement that they solved some of the presumed emulation issues, such as the super fx chip and n64 memory expansion.

Both Punch-Out and Wii Sports Resort before E3? E3 happens in July, right? If so, I don't see this happening.

Punch-Out!! is due for release in PAL regions for the first half of 2009, so that'll easily be available for NTSC regions by then. Wii Sports Resort is due in Japan in April and from what I've read not too long after in the US. So I think it's entirely possible both will released by e3.

I guess you could say that Pikmin was a new core IP from Nintendo, but before Pikmin.... when was the last new core IP before Pikmin? Animal Crossing?

Are you talking about new IPs that appeal to the core fanbase? If so yes.

As much as I love the classic Nintendo franchises and would love for some of them to return Nintendo needs to release more new IPs on the Wii. The Fall Conference showed a lot of titles that I would love to try out.

Yeah, but as much as I'm extremely excited to see what Cosmic Walker turns out to be, I'm not quite sure that's what Lindy had in mind.

I mean, I'm confused as to what exactly people mean when they say they want to see new core IP from Nintendo... what's a good example of that happening before?
