Well that was quick! Though this is EA we are talking about...

I take it the new DLC allows you to download custom maps without the need of friend codes, something I believe the first game only had?

I'm not really sure about the the FC situation.I haven't tried the online yet on the first game.
I think the DL from EA will be something like the stage a day in Brawl.I suspect that EA will use their own servers.

OMG yet another must get game. The ability to download the levels off of a main hub is reason enough to purchase this! Should be interesting to see how it sells now that it is established. Not to mention that even though it has only been a year, this is the type of game where they can actually make a worthwhile sequel in a short amount of time because they already have the engine so it is just a matter of polishing it, adding some worthwhile features and brand new puzzles.

You know how mainstream the original is?

I was listening to KFI about a month ago and one of the morning hosts recomended the original to a coworker that got a Wii around that time.

This is cool and all, but did we really need another game with "party" in the title?

Watch Nintendo releasing Wii Party just to get on Pale's nerves. And we all know Wii is the ultimate party console while the PS3 and 360 are trying too hard to be a gaming PC replacement.

The new environments sound like they should have an impact on the physics, which is certainly a good next step for the game.  I hope that's actually the case.

In all fairness, the word "party" is getting rather generic.

The ultimate party console in my little dream world has a mini fridge with a ton of booze.

If Nintendo does this with Wii 2, sales will sky-rocket.

God I need booze right now. Hooray for Boom Blox sequal!

It is kind of interesting, according to the interview on IGN, the development team made it a goal to create all the levels using the creation tool. Sounds like it will be even more robust!

Quote
Early on in the development of BOOM BLOX Bash Party, our designers committed to building every one of the over 400 levels in the game using the Create Mode feature. To make this possible, we added some key features to the Create Mode that makes level creation much more robust. This means that the community will have access to the same tool that we used to build all of the game's levels. So we anticipate an explosion of great new content available for the world to download.

I guess that means they'll make sure it's fast to use (doesn't mean easy, Blender is fast but about as easy as vi). And maybe even complete (Blast Works has enemy patterns and such that are used in pre-built material but not available for selection to the user, such as chasing while facing the target as seen on the staple removers in the paper plane level)

Great hands on impressions of the game. If you read this and aren't excited for the game you are weird. 600+ new levels along with tons of of additional content. Not only that but the level trading requires no friend code and is supposedly seamlessly integrated with the game.

This is one of those sequels where they seem to be going all out and EA needs to be praised for what appears to be something more then a quick cash in. It actually looks like the development team is having FUN with creating the sequel and is able to put in anything they want. You can even use the characters to solve puzzles, they are no longer resistant to grabbing.

Wait, if level trading does not require a friend code does it use the Wii's own code instead?

Here is the explanation:

Quote
There are no friend codes to speak of. Rather, the title connects so quickly to EA's servers that the process is practically invisible to the end user. Rahimi demonstrated this truth to us by flipping through some of the stage selection screens, all of which now feature a clickable block to download new, user-created levels. He clicked on the block, connected and downloaded all user-created levels within two or three seconds. Because the created levels are just coordinate data, there's no assets to be downloaded and everything is therefore downloaded in the blink of an eye. EA has big plans in store the online mode. Users will be able to trade levels directly with friends, but also receive periodic blasts from the publisher, all without ever leaving the main menus.
