 EA Montreal and Black Box studios recently announced the release dates of Skate It, for the Wii and DS. The game is set to release on November 19 in North America and in Europe on November 20.

A recent winner of the "Best Wii Game" award at the Leipzig game convention, Skate It was also nominated for the best sports game in "Game Critics Awards: Best of E3 2008".  The game features a skateboarding experience possible through the use of the nunchuck and Wii remote with optional use of the Wii balance board, or through the stylus for those picking up the DS version.

The game is set in San Vanelona, a city left in ruins after it was evacuated due to a series of unexplained events. The player must skate their way to the ultimate goal of becoming "Thrasher Magazine's Skater of the Year". Players will also have the opportunity to create their own skate parks by moving objects in order to suit individual skating styles. The game's multiplayer mode will feature challenges such as Best Trick and Best Line.

Skate It is rated "E" for everyone by the ESRB.

Excellent, they felt really good. Same goes for Shaun White. It responded just like it should to everything I did.  It was way more fun then I thought it was gonna be.

Thats good to hear. When they announced balance board support i was pretty skeptical (though i loved the idea). I thought they'd half ass it since the balance board is an extra peripheral not everyone would have, and it'd end up being retarded to control like those Sega skateboarding arcade games.. oh god that game sucked.

From the very little I got to play at E3, it was a skateboarding game... and the Balance Board worked just fine. I have no complaints there.

But personally, I do have to give the game a closer look since I've never bought a skateboarding game before, and am a little confused with the genre's open-endedness and sort of goal-less play, or at least that's what I perceive since I haven't been exposed to it too much beyond the early days of Tony Hawk.

A glooming peace this morning with it brings;
The sun, for sorrow, will not show his head:
Go hence, to have more talk of these sad things;
Some shall be pardon'd, and some punished:
For never was a story of more woe
Than this of Sega and her Mashiro.

I got hours of play just messing around doing combos and tricks in the Tony Hawk games.

I didn't realize it till now, because i've never had to explain why i enjoy(ed) the Tony Hawk games, but its a mixture of the old-school beat your high score gameplay, as well as a tiny bit of exploration.

You might think that sounds weird, exploration in a skateboarding game, but its a different kind of exploration. You have these often time huge environments you're thrown in to and (in certain modes) 2 minutes to do as much as you can.  Your first time in a level you don't really know where to start, you just jump off the first kicker you see, or grind on a rail, or hop a gap, and it just leads to more and more. It's fun to come up with a skate route on the fly, to just launch off a ramp and think "oh look, i could land on this rail, oooh then i can hop off and manual to this other rail, oh sweet a half-pipe i can hang in there a while". Its addictive with all the tricks you can pull off and all the possible lines you can skate.

I do have to mention that i've been a fan of skateboarding since i was a kid (thank you Bart Simpson and the TMNTs), i had both Skate or Die titles back in the day and loved games that had a level similar to the hoverboarding levels in the TMNT games. So maybe it's easier for me to get into something like the TH games and now Skate It, but i still say give it a shot if you can, Kai.

If your being serious, I played this game 3 times at PAX in some sort of free range mode, and with very little instruction I was away. I didn't see any other modes and don't know about the depth, but as far as moving around and just doing tricks, it ruled.
