this is what i was going to ask, i still need to play Mother 1/EarthBound 0. I'm hoping they release EarthBound on the VC cuz i'd love to play it for the 100,000,000,000th time and i might just be inclined to gift the game to as many people as possible :-D.. but don't hold me to that ;)

Nope.

Earthbound on SNES is Mother 2 in japan.
Mother (1) on the famicom was translated to english but never brought over, which is odd. The story and even the characters are pretty similar to EarthBound (mother 2). You don't need to know the backstory to Mother in order to fully enjoy Earthbound, i didnt. Hell i didnt know EB was a sequel till years later.

Mother 3, from the little i know, has some ties to Mother 2, but you still won't need to know much of 1 to understand whats going on.

Err, I don't know if I can agree with that...in fact, I'd go so far as to say Mother 1 and 2 are more connected, in theme, in characters, and just in the experiences they offer.

Mother 3 does share a character or two with Mother 2, but the same could be said about Mother 1 and Mother 2, as well.  Mother 3, while very whimsical and lighthearted at some points, has a very different spirit than the first two games do.

I got it yesterday morning, and took it to work with me on my PSP, in a bold bid for job suicide.

But my boss took the day off, so its cool.

I just started the second chapter, in Oshoe castle at the moment.  I seriously can't get enough of this game.

Apparently, there is a permanent missable item in very early Chapter 5, an nice one, to boot.  I missed it, but so you know:

Go back to Osohe Castle, and look for the conductor boss to be back.  When you defeat this form, you get a nice, equipable item.

As far as I know there's no storyline spoilers to this, just when you're in chapter 5, right away, give that a look, and give it a try.  If you wait to long, you miss the chance, like I did, apparently.

I'm glad to hear the translation got finished. I have a lot of respect for Reid and his staff at starmen.net. I remember reading in a Nintendo Power that Nintendo didn't want to being it over because it would take too long to translate. Good for them to actually go ahead and translate it.
