So in other words you're withholding the superior product for as long as possible so that ignorant people that don't follow online videogame news will continue to buy a soon-to-be obsolete product.
I think there's still a place for the DS lite even after the new model is released. Hopefully Nintendo will drop the price to at least the $99 milestone. And remember, the Lite has an edge over the DSi when it comes to battery life, as well as the ability to play GBA carts. I think the Lite makes a more logical choice for kids especially, because it doesn't have the camera and all that stuff which kids end up breaking anyway.
So my guess is Nintendo will probably still be manufacturing Lites alongside DSi units, at least for awhile anyway. The better battery life, ability to play GBA carts, and (hopefully) lowered costs are all strong incentives for owning one.
