Really, I don't see the point of this thread, except to keeping fanning the Nintendo angst that is popular nowadays. In other words, trolling.

I'm hoping this thread will:

1) Get people who haven't taken a good look at what the Xbox 360 (and other non-Nintendo systems) have to offer, to do do.

2) Stop people from shrugging aside complaints about the Wii's game library and third party support. "How dare you complain about Wii's game library! You don't even own *Insert decent third-party Wii game here*!!!"

Crosswords, what is a perfect 10 crossword game? Yeah exactly, now you see why it is ridiculous to use metacritic. The Wii has a VAST amount of genres on it, with everything from more traditional games to more casual titles like Trivia games and everything in between. How exactly should these different genres be rated? Is a well polished Crossword game bad? How do you rate it?

So let the battle begin, which is a better game:

Crossword vs CoD4. Which game is going to appeal to all gamers? Confused? Well you should be because NEITHER are since they are focused on different audiences and while both may be polished they are not universal in their appeal, so how should they be rated? Of course since we are dealing with a biased mainstream video game press that prefers traditional games, the scores for these more casual games, regardless of their polish or "quality" are going to be lower.

I figure someone will mention that reviewers aren't part of Nintendo's target demo so it makes sense that the reviews aren't as favourable.  But that same person will then deny that Nintendo has abandoned the hardcore gamers - the gamers who's tastes correspond with the reviewers that are not part of Nintendo's target demographic.

The hardcore are a bunch of arrogant whiners on the internet, the core are the traditionally most profitable segment of the market. When Nintendo says they're making core games that means they're making games like those that sold big in the past. Madden is core but the hardcore whines how it is for casual gamers (when casual gamers are the people who had a PS2 for Madden, what are the new people who got a Wii for Wii Sports?). I just want to outright lock this thread. Like pap mentioned earlier, I'm so fucking sick of this discussion. It literally infests every thread on the board and makes it impossible to peruse the boards and have friendly discussion about anything.

Whether or not you are happy about the Wii library, keep it to yourself. When a discussion on a game comes up, discuss the game, not the overarching importance/worthlessness in the overall Wii library or whether or not it is a core/hardcore/casual/whateverthefuckelse game. Seriously, its just annoying at this point.

I put up my fanboyism blog in an attempt to discuss this exact topic. Play and experience everything, then you won't be complaining about who has what library of games and which system is the best. They are all great in their own way and they all have games everyone can enjoy. If you don't see any need to play anything further than what you have already, whether it be a Wii, 360, or PS3, GREAT. You have made an excellent purchase and should be happy to get such value from it.

Well my tastes aren't awful so I won't agree to it.  My tastes in movies, television, music, literature and videogames is typically pretty critically acclaimed.

And Professional Wrestling, no matter how it changed over how many years, has and always will be the pathetic entertainment associated with classless hicks, and the majority of reviewers of any medium think so.  In order for you to lay claim that, because the majority of reviewers hate Wii games, then they are crappy, then you MUST agree that Professional Wrestling has never been enjoyed by anybody but inbred hillbillies and Northerners that strangely want to be them.

Some people say videogames are just for kids and nerds.  The small amount of people that review wrestling don't feel the wrestling is crappy.  To me the comparison would only make sense if ALL videogames were crapped on by the mainstream media.  Someone who hates all videogames would not be a worthwhile reviewer of videogames just like someone who hates wrestling isn't a good reviewer of that (ie: if you liked wrestling they couldn't recommend what the best stuff would be).  But these videogame reviewers do like games and thus their opinion on what videogames are worth playing and what aren't is more valid.  Some douchebag who blindly hates all videogames would have a worthless opinion as would some fanboy who likes everything.

You're going to write reviews for your readers.  If you're a videogame website casuals aren't going to be reading your site.  Giving a casual game that your readers won't like a 10 because it's the best damn crossword game in the world isn't going to be useful.  If you go a website about comics do you think they spend all their time focusing on Archie comics?  Of course they don't.

Don't nitpick about terms.  "Hardcore", "core", "old school", "gamer games", etc.  It all means the old group prior to Nintendo's blue market strategy that specifically attracted a different new group.
