Wii refuses to connect online. Please help...
« on: August 12, 2008, 11:57:02 AM »
Hello, I'm having a lot of issues getting past the 52230 error using a Linksys WRT54GL I bought especially for getting the Wii online.

From what I understood reading the Nintendo tech support page, they want my cable modem to be set to a state of always online? I currently get online by opening a VPN connection to my ISP through the PC, as such the router isn't always in a state of online (it has to be like this as I have more than one service provider and 1 infrastructure provider - without a login I can't switch between the two).

I have tried every security setting there is including no security settings of any kind, is the thing preventing the Wii from getting online the sole fact that I have to open a VPN connection to my ISP through the PC?  I'm looking for any way at all around this without changing how my modem itself behaves through my infrastructure provider (this is how isps in my country work, don't ask).

This page implies that VPNs must be disabled.  From my understanding, the Wii wants direct access to the internet from at least the router, with a proxy server being the worst obstacle allowed.  Making things anymore indirect will not be successful.
